Congrats Ken!!!!! You're on your way to becoming a great diver. Keep it up.

Let me know when you want to dive..

Hey Hombre!

No greater pleasure could have greeted me this morning than when I read of your graduation and accomplishments in the LA County ADP

Top in Academics!

A big, big, CONGRATULATIONS!

You have received a very prestigious award from the most prestigious difficult demanding competitive civilian advanced diving program in the world!

Now your name and accomplishments have been firmly etched in the historic LA County program and world of recreational diving

Seems like only yesterday when we were exchanging e mails regarding the selection of a basic course; then the question of the ADP...

Perhaps next summer a team leader in ADP and in 2009 LA County UICC?

If so I would consider it a huge honor to recommend you

Sam Miller,

LA County UW instructor, #11
Outstanding contributions to UW Instruction, 1964
Outstanding UW instructor of the year 1969,
LA county UIA B of D,
etc, etc...

Wow Ken, be honored my friend, Josh has never said that to me before, ahaha!

Billy

Hey Billy, let me know when you want to dive :)

Thanks. Yes, this year has been an amazing one. I've gone from knowing absolutely nothing about scuba to being able to enter a whole new world and community today. Back in January of this year, I went on my honeymoon and did a discovery dive. Came back and set out on a path to see what I could learn about this "scuba stuff." I still remember coming to scubaboard and approaching people via email/PM about OW basic dive classes. This forum has been and continues to be a great repository of knowledge and experience for us newer divers.

I also do feel very blessed to have found and run across such great instructors, mentors, divemasters, safety divers, buddies and friends in the process of my dive development. I know that I still have much to learn and much more experience to be gained. I also continue to read whatever I can get my hands on regarding this sport (currently reading the book "Diver Down"). LA County has also been an amazing organization run by very dedicated volunteers promoting a legacy of dive education and safety.

The beauty of this sport is that I think that the learning never has to end. I don't know where diving will take me in the future. For now, I am really looking forward to just getting much more dive experience - learning, diving, and having fun with my dive buddies; and hopefully meeting new dive buddies along the way.

Yeah, but now that we all know you come prepared with gourment BBQ products, I'm sure that you'll get more invitations. :)

Now let's see what we can do about gettin' us some lobsters tomorrow. I am starting to think that the CA spiny lobster is a mythical creature... LOL!

Hey Billy, let me know when you want to dive :)

Thanks bro, I'll never forget our 90min dive at Dead Mans, one of the greatest I've had even in my limited experience.

I'm so ready, I think we should head out to the west side of the reef this time and maybe try some different tactics. It's all in the kelp yo!

That was a great dive, Billy. We've been scoring some pretty epic dives at Deadman's/N.Crescent lately. Let me know when you're ready for another dive ... bring the new ADP grad :)

@liuk3: Ken, congrats. It was fun going through ADP 2007 with you, though we were on different teams and didn't get to buddy up but once I believe (I think I was your rescuer at Anacapa and possibly also at RAT but don't recall). Also, contrats on your 98% average GPA for the academics. That is some serious cramming. I crammed as hard as I could and sacrificed my calc classes at the university and barely averaged 90%. Yikes!!! also, your humility attitude is admirable. If you're ever in Orange County (or near Vets -- about the furthest I can usually make it) call me up. I've been bug hunting about every other day now and can get them when they are there (slim pickings this season where I've been) and when my bag isn't doing weird things letting the bugs escape exiting the waters. Or I'll call you.

@alaity47: You are so correct... how much of our life was put on hold for those 12 weeks (or whatever it was). Now I'm trying to settle the house back in order for my first Thanksgiving in this new house of mine (the purchase of which caused me to incomplete last year's ADP) and its amazing how much neglect I've given my life/wife all these weekends. PS: I still have your weight: you gonna be at the 3R in crystal cove this weekend? I plan to be there, its near my house. I'll bring it just in-case you show up.

@Empty V: When you mentioned dead man's, were you speaking of Dead Man's reef in Laguna Beach? I noticed you're in Ventura so may be a different dead man we're talking about. If so, I just did some lobster runs at dead man's laguna and apart from the countless sea lions using my light as a guide to hunt and taking my prize before my hand can get it, in a 70 minute dive we only found one legal bug. Dissappointing. But he was tasty. I let the ones go that carry eggs so they don't count.

Thanks,
Shawn

I remember Billy telling me a while back about an amazing 90 minute dive he did with some guy in OC. I didn't know that it was with you, Rick! Pretty cool!
