Ok, I give. It's time to make a confession...

There have been lots of discussion by tech divers about training. Many of us advocate taking classes. Lots and lots of classes. Deco classes, mix classes, cave classes, you name it. Some people suggest they don't need any of that. They can learn through mentors. They can learn on the internet. They can just go out and dive and figure it out for themselves.

Classes suck anyway. They're expensive and you don't really learn that much. Instructors have all these stupid requirements about things like redundant lift and gear configuration. Some instructors haven't even been teaching that long, what do they know?

Ok, so here's my confession... :lookaround:

We don't really care about you. We're not telling you this out of concern. We're just pissed off that we weren't smart enough to figure all this out on our own and spent a ton of money on cards and classes and we want you to do the same thing.

Shhh... Don't tell anybody! :ignore:

So your saying to be a CCR diver such as yourself, I don't have to take classes? I can just listen to a bunch of Creedence Clearwater Revival records?

At least you have a sense of humor.

I did a lot of my diving with mentors and ended up taking the training classes after the fact in order to dive specific locations or boats. The classes were pretty easy after having already been task loaded in real life to learn from my mentors. It still cost me just as much money in the end.

You really need to get some training. It might be from mentors or a paid instructor, but it will help to keep you alive. I would never let my buddies know that I owe my life to them on more than one occassion - Oops, did I just type that out load?

I don't need no stinkin' classes! I learned everything from Bubba down the street, who gave me a hundred feet of ski rope, some old LP72's, and a Maglight in a ziploc baggie...

Now, where's Diepolder?

don, that was me, right? telling you about that champagne leak that time in og basin? glad to save you, man. ;)

I Knew I did all that training for nothing! I mean, all the stuff techies spout about redundant gas rules, deco courses, cave courses, and stuff, actually Are crap. All we really need is the big three- Duct tape, Twinkies, and Beer. We will be just fine from now on. Kewl...

I learned all I need from the internet.

What's your point?

CCR classes just seem to prolong the inevitable anyways

Who needs a CCR class when you've got electronics. Set it and forget it!
