I'll be in Cozumel for 3 weeks in July (yippee!). The first week my buddy and I will be at the VillaBlanca. The last 2 weeks I'll be solo. I think by then I'll want to get away from hotel rooms so I'm looking for a condo, guest house, etc. that won't break the bank for one person. It would be nice to have a microwave at my disposal so I don't have to run out for every single meal.

I've located Mare Blu condos and Casa de Angel apartments which are both in my price range (highest quote is $750 tax included total for both weeks). Anyone have any info on these two, or any other condos that are in that Corpus Christi area (need to be walkable to the hotel Villablanca/La Palapita where my dive boat leaves) and relatively cheap for solo travelers? I don't need anything fancy at all - basic, plain, neat, spartan is all fine - but I don't want a dump either.

I know Mare Blu does not have A/C. I have a very high heat tolerance (thanks to summers in Texas) - will I be able to get away with open windows (bedroom on the second floor) and stand fans?

If anyone has experiences or advice on these places or others, I'd appreciate it!

Oh, if there's anyone who lives in Cozumel who knows approximately how far it is from that Villablanca area to around 15th/17th/19th streets, that would be great also. I'm thinking it's a mile or so and that's totally doable.

Thanks!

DH and I have stayed at Summer Place Inn many times. On Ave. 10 between 17 and 19. 1 1/2 block walk to Chedraui. The complex has 5 rooms downstairs and one very large condo upstairs for rent. The owners are on the premises and very attentive, however, you hardly know that they are there.

Summer Place INN can offer you a very nice, VERY CLEAN first floor room and well kept grounds, with private bath, TV, AC, sm. fridge, maid service. There is a locked gate that is used especially for the evening. All guests have a key to come and go as they require. There are no telephones in the room, however, the owners phone is available. We found that all we need to do is ring the bell by the front gate and someone comes to the door quickly. We just then mention what we need be it the phone or whatever and it is taken care of very quickly. They are very good about taking and delivering messages as well. You have access to the very nice pool, outdoor shower/bathroom, rinse tank. DH and I rinse our suits out and hang them outside until the next day. The Inn is very secure.

You also have use of the outstanding Palapa/outdoor full kitchen and patio. Breakfast food ie: eggs, toast, juice, milk, is provided however you cook it yourself. What's nice about this plan at is that you can cook up your breakfast any time of day or night. DH and I find that it is nice sometimes to grab a couple of eggs and toast for dinner instead of going out. You can also store a few food items in the big fridge if you don't have room in your room fridge. All that is asked is that you clean up the kitchen after your use. The kitchen is well stocked with plates/pots/pans/flatware, etc.

It would be a mile+ walk to Villablanca. There are bikes available for free use however, and you may be able to use one for your trek back and forth. It may work if you would be able to lock it or store it safely at your dive op. I would ask the owners for such use however, it is just a thought on my part. Sue

Thanks for the replies. I like the Villablanca but don't like the lack of microwave. In the past I've had kitchens, and usually just go out for one meal a day and bring another meal back that can be microwaved for the next meal. I can get snack stuff from Chedraui but I like the option of "real food" when I'm hungry but I don't want to go back out. A hotel room with a microwave would be ideal but I don't know how easy that is to find.

I'll look into the Summer Place Inn, it sounds like they may be a good compromise between a hotel and a condo that offers more cooking features.

My dive op is already set so now it's just a matter of finding the most attractive lodging for a longer term stay. I know there are options in town but I'd like to be able to walk some of the time and reserve taxis for when I'm in a huge hurry or too lazy to walk. I'm kind of a cheapskate, what can I say? :dork2:

Your not a cheapskate, just frugal and practical. :D. Regardless of where you stay, have a great time ! Oh, BTW, the SummerPlace Inn Kitchen has a microwave as well.

We have stayed at Casa de Angel apartment and found it to be more than adequate. It is a well appointed 2 bedroom place with the full kitchen you are looking for. There is even a washing machine. (no dryer but we used the clothesline in one of the bedrooms) There is air conditioning, a stove and a microwave. One of the bedrooms has a television set. We found Columba (the owner) to be very helpful and gracious. Do not let the outside of the building deter you from staying here. The only negative we experienced was the noise but we even got used to that. (Early morning laundry startup and a party that went right through the night. These people sure have stamina when it comes to partying!) The location is great - Chedraui is right next door. There is a hostel on the island if you really want to save money. I think the rate is less than $20.00 per night. Google it and read the reviews.

Also contact Sara at Villa Zaz-Tun. SHe has four one bedroom apartments with full kitchen, wireless internet, AC if you need it...and really close to walk just about anywhere. Also in the Corpus Christi area.
