I drove up to the Fanning Springs State Park dive site today. The run to the river was exceptionally clear and was at average height. The Suwannee was smooth as glass considering the heavy winds today. Many fish, but no manatees were visible. They are holding a nature fest there this weekend which has a lot of special stuff for kids. From what I've heard, should be a cool weekend.

From what i heard the heavy silt in the river was blowing places out along the Suwannee a few weeks ago, i take it that isnt a problem there?

Actually i just searched and found this: http://www.floridacaves.com/Fanning.htm to explain the springs and other details, so removed my questions.

This place doesn't silt up due to the concrete barrier/dock. I didn't gear up, just went walking to see what was there. The site you postd said they were picky about SCUBA. The ranger I spoke with said they don't get many divers there anymore because the depth is so minimal and because Manatee and other springs better meet Cert Depth Criteria. She also said that since SCUBA/swimming is only allowed in the enclosed area, one dive and it's all been seen.
