We had two feet of vis on the Star of Scotland yesterday. I managed to fire off two quick shots of a small giant sea bass before it disappeared.

This morning we tried our luck on the south side of Palos Verdes. We found blue water less than a quarter mile from shore, but the four foot swells kept us from getting in the water. It was a bit calmer at White Point Rock, although the water was a little browner. I knew my wide angle shots wouldn't come out, but tried anyway.

Another Fire Sponge sighting! Very cool. WPR is always a delight to dive. Glad to see you and Merry are finally getting some much needed bottom-time in. ;) So I guess our knitting seminar on Tuesday is out? :rofl3:

I don't know. We had 3-8' at White Point on Saturday, and the surface conditions at both Malaga and Topaz St this morning didn't warrant getting in the water. Have a big trip next weekend, so hopefully indeed conditions improve quickly!

Nice shots as always.

The red fish...is that a vermillion rock fish?
Yes. It's like a rockfish nursery there. We see vermillion, kelp, olive, gopher, blue, calico, honeycomb, copper and even one starry rockfish there. It's a small reef, about the size of a school bus, so we see the same fish each dive. There are two rubberlip seaperch who never seem to leave the same ten foot area.

Just out of curiosity, how much post-processing do you do on your photos? Those pics make it look like the vis is not bad at all....in fact, it looks quite good.

Like Rainer mentioned, we went out to White Point Saturday afternoon and scootered to the outer reef. It was full of life (tons of rockfish!), but vis was pretty pathetic. I can only imagine that any pictures would have captured the suspended particles, but I could be wrong (I'm not a photographer....not even close!).

We were out at White Point Rock, about 1/3 mile offshore. The vis was 10-12', but just a quarter mile away was blue water. If the swells hadn't been so close together we would have probably dived the Jenny Lynne instead. The GSB photos from the Star of Scotland are only visible thanks to Photoshop. :)

I've watched conditions quickly approve here at Casino Point over the past five days, Phil. On Friday I had 10 ft vis, 15 ft on Sat, no diving Sunday or Monday, but yesterday I had 30-40 ft vis. Swell is slowly subsiding and was only "bad" (for a videographer) in the upper 20 ft yesterday.

Point Dume had 10- foot vis and 6 foot surge Wed with 60 degree water. Hard work for a poor dive.

On the positive side 100 spanish shawls were sighted with several mating pairs and some laying eggs. If the conditions calm down soon this could be a great time to get some behavior shots of this critter.
