Computers - Do you NEED a backup?

I don't need a backup computer for the dive I'm on. I do need a backup computer so I won't miss the *next* dive.

You always have the tables as a fallback.

I use a non gas integrated copmuter and than I also have my depth gage and a watch.

If the dive is planed in advance with tables, as a backup, you can go back to the tables NDL, in case the computer fails (and jsut go up/out when you have reached your NDL).

Worst case that can happen is that the next dive will have to be shorter.

My wife and I have 'Back-ups' for everything.... and I mean everything!

I totally agree with stone. For short weekend trips, I'll just use one. But for long and major dive holidays, I would have back-ups. For a back-up, you need not get a very expensive unit just something essential.
