In my Nitrox Class we used 1.4 as a Max PO2 and 1.6 for the Contingency value.

I noticed that my computer defaults to a 1.6 value for the maximum.

What is the SB consensus for this setting - keep it at 1.6 or drop it to 1.4 (or some other value).

I only dive nitrox at 1.4. Ox Tox isn't something to play around with and I want to stay fairly conservative. General industry consensus appears to be that 1.4 is a safer, more conservative option that then leaves upon 1.4-1.6 as a contingency in case you screw up or have an emergency.
 
1.4, I can't think of a good reason to set it higher.

For long dives 1.4 is too much. Some that I dive with are diving at 1.0 or 1.1.

What setting ?????

My computer monitors my ppO2 and runs the CNS clock appropriately. It flashes the screen and changes to a display of ppO2 when 1.6ata is reached. At 1.6ata ppO2 the CNS clock reaches 100% in 45 minutes. At 2.0ppO2, the CNS clock reaches 100% in about 8 minutes.

There isn't any sort of user setting. There isn't any audible alarm on either my main computer -- Oceanic Data Plus 2, or the backup -- Oceanic Data Plus.

It's no different than with the decompression tracking. There are no user settings. It simply displays when I go into deco.
 
I was the "other" I set mine to 1.5, the reason being I was taught in my ACUC nitrox diver course to plan your dives based on 1.45 PPO2 and I set to 1.5 to keep my overly annoying computer to shut the hell up. Fact of the matter is I never press right to the limit anyway, as all my dives are wrecks with a very solid bottom under them, and I would need a shovel to get to my 1.45 limit. Now if it's going to be very cold or dark, or I anticipate a more challenging or long dive, then I lower my PPO2 accordingly.
 
I don't use my computer often, but I have a Uwatec Alladin Pro- the default setting is 1.5, but that is just to trigger the alarm. I stay above my MOD, calculated at 1.4. :D

Also, when I set my nitrox setting (2% increments), I round down the O2 percentage, but when I calculate my MOD, I round up the O2 percentage. :D For example, if my mix is 31%, I'll set my computer to 30%, but calculate my MOD using 31% (or 32% if I am using tables). ;) This whole process assumes that I only use my computer to track my nitrogen and that I track my MOD in my head. Then again, I don't use my computer very often.
 
I leave the computer set to 1.6ATA. I plan my dive to keep within the limit of 1.4ATA and carefully monitor my depth so I do not go to a higher partial pressure.

I leave it set to the higher value because when doing planned decompression profiles I decompress at this higher partial pressure. Please note that the higher value of 1.6 is for the decompression phase of the dive only.

For purely recreational dives I leave the computer set to 1.6ATA and just dive my plan. I am willing to reach the higher partial pressure if there is a compelling reason for me to violate my plan, but it should be because of a decision I have made to violate the plan, and not inattentiveness.
