Is there a computer that can function as a stand alone unit (on the wrist, clip on, etc... ie NOT with a hose) that WILL manually read pressure but can be used without?

Say a consule sized computer, that can eventually go in a gauge pod and when it does, manually read tank pressure.

Reason being is I have $400 bucks, want a computer of my own so I can practice with it, learn all the ins and outs of it. BUT I dont have a regulator setup or BC yet. So what I want is a computer that I can for now wear on my wrist and EVENTUALLY move it into the gauge pod on my own BC and reg setup and when I do that, it will double as an integrated pressure gauge.

Anyone know any models like that? Im a little overwhelmed researching these suckers.

Thanks

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but almost any wireless air integrated computer will do. I have a Suunto Vytec but you can look into Aeris, Atomic or Aladin. It can be used as a wrist computer (in that configuration, my vytec behaves like a vyper) and when you are ready, you buy & install the wireless transmitter on your first stage and it becomes a pressure gauge.

I am more looking for a computer that can eventually be a WIRED pressure gauge in a consul but for the time being just be a computer.

That way I can rent my BC and reg setup, use my computer on my wrist for a while and eventually get my own reg setup, put my computer in it and have it be a wired computer and pressure gauge from that point on.

Im not to keep on the idea of the wireless transmitter.

I have a Cressi Archimedes and love it. It's nitrox compatible, easy to read (other than the bar graphs on the side) and you can change you PPO2 between 1.0-1.6 to change how conservative the computer will operate. Mine is in a console so I have the SPG and compass all in one package.

Here's links to both types from Scubatoys. The price is right.

When you say 'move it into a gauge pod', I assume you mean a console. You can remove almost any computer from a console and use it as a wrist computer. I'd buy the consoel and do that. It's cheaper to buy it together rather than buying a console later. Just find out where/how much the wrist straps will cost.

I think what you're looking for is a computer with wireless air integration features. There are several on the market and they're not cheap, but you can buy them without the AI transmitter and then add a transmitter to the set once you get your own regs. In the long run you'll probably find it easier to just leave the computer on your wrist anyway so I wouldn't get too hung up on putting it in the console.

Another option is to forego the AI functions all together and just get a good wrist mounted computer and buy your regs with an spg. With your budget you have some good options if you go this route.

No, you can't. The connection to the HP hose would be exposed. However, it would be really easy to install an integrated computer on a rental reg if that is what you really want.
