I was just looking through the thread about various computer batteries because I need to replace my Veo180 battery. Now, looking at the o-ring I don't see any issues, so is there any reason I should replace it? Is it just "good practice" to replace the o-ring when you replace a battery or is there a real reason to replace it even if it doesn't show any wear/problems?

Yes. It's a good practice.

The problem is that there's a super fine line between "I see there's a sign of wear" and "oh THAT's what caused my computer to flood and die."

Plus, o-rings are cheap, especially compared with a new computer.

Ditto, and don't forget the silicone grease.......

Speaking from experience (flood my last VEO on the first dive), when removing the cover, be extremely careful. The, in service, external pressure will cause an extremely good seat between the cover and the O-ring. Use extreme care in lifting the cover loose, use soft tools (wood or plastic) to get it loose, if you cause any scratch or indentation on the inner periphery of the cover, replace it, it’s cheap. Same care in lifting the O-ring from the base groove (I carefully use a tooth pick). The used O-ring will have been pressure formed to the old seat and may not seal correctly if re-installed, best bet is to use a new O-ring, lightly lubricated with silicone or Cristo-lube.

I fall on the "if it ain't broke, don't screw with it" side of the fence.

I got 20 years out of the original o ring in my first computer and it was still in great shape when i sold it. I have never replaced an o ring in any of my camera housings or flash lights. I just leave them alone. Never had a flood or leak of any kind.

I do see people obsessively removing and regressing o rings all of the time. Also have seen lots of flooded stuff. Every time you fiddle an o ring provides an opportunity for you to screw it up. No fiddle, no opportunity.

I claim most of the flooding issues are caused by excessive fiddling.

Can someone identify the size of the o-ring in these Veo180 computers? I called the vendor who sold me this unit last year, and she claimed a size -021 which is smaller than the -023 I use on my Aeris ATMOS Pro which uses a slightly smaller battery ie CR2032 vs CR2450.
BTW, anyone get o-rings from this distributor?:
Buna N O-Rings, 70 Durometer, 1/16" Width, PK100 by VALUE BRAND - O-Rings by Zoro Tools Industrial Supplies

Just got an order in from Zoro and all the o-rings came from a major industrial distributor RT Dygert from midwest. I purchased 11 sizes incl -023 and -026 for dive computers and they came in packs of 100, most of which I will never use up. Made a packet of (6) o-rings each and put up on eBay and eCrater.

I will be posting shortly on the Marketplace/misc-auction links for a kit at nominal cost of $10 w/free delivery.

Look for title "Sherwood scuba 66pc 0-ring kit incl dive computer seals"
