I need help identifying a portable air compressor. The only information that I have found on the compressor is KB 14574. This information is cast on the block of the compressor. The compressor is powered by a Kohler 7hp gas engine.

I have been told that it is a Bauer K-7 manufactured in the mid 70s by Mako. The filter system is Mako and takes a PC 1801 Filter. This unit is up and in full operation. It fills 80cf cylinders from 500 psi to 3300 psi in approximately 20 minutes.

Any information would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark
Its a CAPITANO unit see if you can find a number on block
C1. C2b,C3e,C3w or C4d
I cant help with info on filter as its not a bauer unit.
other units are used your side of the pond.
you may find number in crankcase by second stage cylinder.
Pm me if you want a photo copy of parts list

Windyairman,
The only numbers I found near the second stage are stamped at the base of the cylinder. These numbers are 6\951\5. I did not find C1, C2b,C3e,C3w or C4d anywhere on the block only KB 14574. Do these numbers mean anything to you?

Thanks,
Mark

That unit looks a lot like my Capitano if that is not a Bauer unit I'm a monkeys uncle, but I can't swear as to exactly which model.

I think Windy is on to something.

I vote for Capitano as well. I have a Utilus which has a round first stage head as well, but has four bolts instead of 3. A Mariner would have a square first stage head.

Hi Mark
Yes the unit is a capitano
As for the filter stack i dont think its a bauer as used other than in usa
may be its a mako filter stack [skippy31]
the photo is not clear enough for me to be sure.
As for the numbers i will have to dig out some old books.
But for sure i have all the old and very old parts lists for all bauer blocks back to 1965.
I think its a C105b November 1975 Can you have a close look at the KB number sure its a K i think its a AB .
I have found the parts list for the block .
Also lok at the filter housing it may have a date stamp

I put it at late 70's due to the smooth tubing. Anything older used finned tubing, I think.

Thanks everyone, your input has been of great value to me. Your right, the unit is a 1976 Bauer Capitano 5 cfm compressor.

I was able to gather more information from Pat Linn the Service manager at Breathing Air in Ohio. Pat is outstanding; he spent a great deal of time explaining the operation of the compressor as well as parts, filters, etc.

He never mentioned the age of my compressor in a negative manner. After all this is a precision German made pump…

Again thanks,
Mark
