Wetman,

I have my Stinger too. And I have the same idea as you clipping a compass to the strap. I ordered one from Diveinn, it is a small compass from Suunto, which only works for North Atmosphere as they said.

In fact I have one from the console but I found it's easier and convenient to have one on arm. Anyway, it is affordable of being a spare, cost only US 6.50 something.

Cheers,
Yiu

I have the small Suunto wristband compass which I have attached on my dive watch band. It's been to 30+ m several times, no problem. The compass points are luminescent which is a nice plus.

Please note I use the small compass only as a back-up in case of failure/loss of my Suunto SK-7. As Eric implied earlier, the wrist compass is too small for any serious underwater navigation. As a backup though, it can at least tell me the general direction of shore/boat. It's also handy on the surface for getting general bearings.

Hope this helps.

I ordered a couple of the wrist suunto ones a couple days ago so hopefully they'll be here tomorrow and we'll get to test 'em out this weekend! I'm not sure i'd say i ever do "serious" navigation - typically its more of a "shore is this way" type thing. Its almost always quite a rough directional type thing for me, so hopefully these will do the trick.
