Community Links, Like/Share, and Tags

We have enabled some new functions on ScubaBoard and wanted to tell you about them.

1) in the Nav Bar, you'll see a new link for Community. This gives you quick and easy access to your friends list, Social Groups, and Member list.

2) On Every Post, you'll see an option to Like or Share (you'll see this appear when you hover over the post with your mouse). It's just like like on Facebook, but only appears on SB. (Please note that this function is supported by the newer version of vBulletin, and we are evaluating the removal of the thanks button, which is not supported in the newer version)... Also the top of the thread will show how many liked posts there are in the thread.

3) TAGS: You can tag words, usernames, whatever in a thread (up to 25). Once tagged, you can click on the tag itself, and see all threads that have been tagged with the same tag.

4) Profile Privacy: You can now set how private you want to be with your user profile by making adjustments in your usercp. Check out this link: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/profile.php?do=privacy

For the record, we will be re-evaluating all of our current features in regards to our next upgrade/face lift. Those features that are little used or that will not be supported by the newer software will be replaced with similar features, when possible, that will be supported.

The "Tags" feature is more than wonderful, and you can do an Advanced Search using them. I likey!

I should also try to clarify: The "LIKE" that appears on every post (when you mouse over) is different than the facebook link which is on the first post of every thread. If you LIKE it on SB (by clicking on the moused over link) it won't go to facebook.

To post it to your facebook profile, you can either LIKE the first post of the thread in the facebook link, or also when you mouse over there is a SHARE link. Select SHARE, and you can post a link to any individual post on your Twitter, Facebook, or other site in the "SHARE" box. If people want other sites to "SHARE" to... let me know, and we'll evaluate that.

FWIW - The SHARE a post option has been on SB for about 2 years now. Currently it has been moved to this less obtrusive version that you can see only upon mouse over.

Look at the bottom of this thread and you will see a place where you can view tags. You will see Tags on the left, which is what brings you to the Tag Cloud, and Edit Tags to the right, which is how you add tags. Howie will be adding it to the QuickLinks drop down menu.

Can something be changed so the drop down menus go on top of the Like count? Currently the like count stays on top, and the menus are obscured. IE8 Browser.

That's an IE thing. It doesn't happen on Chrome. It has to do with the ajax scripting, and how the browsers see it.
