hi everyone im new to scubaboard looks like a very interesting site and im glad to have joined ijust wanted to ask a question i want to be a commercial diver and wanted to know if it is in demand the dangers and basically if its worth doing money wise etc thanks

....and after browsing this board, you decided this would be a good place to ask about it.
Well, I'm sure you'll get plenty of answers, here we are all experts about anything and everything related to breathing underwater, so get ready to take notes.
Many factors will dictate how succesfulyou are as a commercial diver. Are you planing of working inland or offshore? Look for work aT a national or multinational company? Which nation? Get training from a school or follow an internship? If from a school: a big one or a small one? Are you handy with tools or does tighting a screw requires a google search? There are about 836 more questions that would help define for you how good or bad this commercial diving can be.
Good luck.

hi thanks for the info maybe i can narrow it down a bit i dont mind working anywhere in the world i just want to know how long it takes and if the demand is high i love:) the water and can work with my hands the courses are expensive here in south africa and just wanted to know if it were worth it :)

I am nowhere close to an expert, but from what Ive read the impression I get is you can make good money, but to do so you need to do the really crappy work?

How do you feel about diving through sewers? How about retiring in 5 years because your body was broken down from working on an oil rig? I'm sure like any job, some enjoy it and for others it ruins diving for them.

If you're thinking about commercial diving because you like diving that may be the wrong reason. With commercial diving the diving part is only your transportation to the work site and back. As a general ruel there is no time to look at cute little fish, if you can see anything and if any fish can exist in some less than plesent conditions. You need to do the job or task you are given when it needs to be done no matter how you feel or go look for another job. A few refusals can get you black balled all together. Some outfits are great to work for while others could be nightmares.

Take your time do your research and get a degree in something related like plumbing, welding or something in the construction field.

Good luck

Gary D.
