Have friends who went there. I wouldn't based on experiences they related concerning regular drug and alcohol abuse by fellow students and other sketchy behavior. One of the guys dove for me for a couple of years and it was a frequent topic with guys wanting to transition from spearfishing to hard hat diving.

Excerpting from Bodycam video sheds light on police investigation after student diver drowned
The medical examiner later said he drowned, but found alcohol intoxication as a contributing factor. It’s unclear if the diving school knew Pierce was intoxicated before he got in the water.

And I-TEAM: Jacksonville diving school suspended after 4 student deaths

I have no further info.

But CDA uses Full head 'helmet' diving. Combined with U/W Voice comm's, tenders, rescue divers and all the people watching, I would think it would be next to impossible to "Drown" because the helmet is positive pressure.
But I'd rather ask @Akimbo his comments if this situation could result in a 'Drowning"
(PS the news frequently gets the details wrong on dive accidents)
Many helmets are on demand regulators just like your scuba. He could have drown or suffocated. With virtually any hard hat.

No matter what, it's very sad.
