Coming to Curacao

Mushroom Forest and Watamula are boat dives. OEWest does them: ..:: Ocean Encounters West ::.. Boat Schedule

We offer daily boat trips to sites which are hard to get to or impossible to reach from shore. Curaçao's most well-known dive site, Mushroom Forest, is on our schedule at least twice per week. The most northern dive site, Watamula, is only 5 minutes away by boat and offers spectacular healthy formations of hard corals, a soft coral-garden and a large variety of marine life.

Playa Kalki/Alice in Wonderland is a shore dive done from the OEW dock in West Punt adjacent to Lodge Kura Hulanda. About a 45min. drive from Willemsted.

Definitely don't miss these dives, they are the best in my opinion and many others! Definitely don't miss some pizza or other treats at Sunshine's which is just up the road from these dives (make sure you do them on the weekend when Sol Food is open). Ocean Encounters West can set you up for the diving!

Most of the pictures at this link > Curacao < were taken at the 3 sites you mention (Alice in Wonderland, Watamula and Mushroom Forest) plus at Playa Piscado, which is pretty much around the corner from OEW and in front of Sunshine's Sol Food and AllWest Apts.

We dove Habitat Curacao's house reef at night but I just read the dive dock itself was destroyed last year. The diveshop closes around 5 so I'd recommend an afternoon dive to familiarize yourself with the reef first. The divetank/locker area is open all night and well lit. We were there in 07. there was a big octopus hunting just off the "beach" at night. For reference you'd have the lights of the resort on top of the hill to guide you back in.

Habitat's Dock at Easy Divers is just fine. I have been diving there this past week and had no problems. It is very sturdy and safe. The only thing left for them to fix are the steps leading out into the water. They are a little rickety.

Many if not most of the docks were damaged during Tropical Storm Omar last October. And most have been replaced.

Habitat is still working on their beach area and clearing the area. Can't wait until it is finished.

Flamingo, how easy will it be for us to do a shore dive at habitat? We stayed there on our last visit and I'd like to check out their progress in Nov.

Bees, Remember, Habitat has the tank exchange dealie with OEW. You utilized it last year. A phone call from Andreas and you won't even have to pay for the tanks.
Everyone else not on an OEW package, Habitat is the only dive site where you are required to get your air at the dive shop. You can not bring it in. But that saves you from lugging it a good distance and they are a wealth of information about Curacao diving and more.

We will be staying at habitat curacao from sept. 26-october 5 berfore we head over to bonaire -I read here that the progress is coming along nicely -how is the little beach and how easy is shore entry for the shore diving? How is the rest of the place looking?
