My sister in law has asked if my father and I would go on holiday with them and my 3 year old nephew next year (this year being fully dive booked). They would like to take Oliver to Florida for Disneyworld and all that, of course I'd like to go but vaccations are very precious when you have a dive habit to feed. Can anyone help me out with ideas that would allow me an underwater fix or two or preferably ten.

Neil

At EPCOT you can dive in the Living Sea. You would need to contact Disney and see what is required. I think you have to use all their equipment. I think some on the board have done it. Next time I go to EPCOT i plan to try it. Also your family can sit in the restuarant and watch you dive. I don't know the cost, or if it is worth it. I guess it is up to the indivdual. If I am completely wrong I am sure someone will correct me. Besides Epcot you are in the center of some of the best spring and ocean diving anywhere. It is not far to the east coast, or up to the springs around Gainesville.

Diving The Living Seas at EPCOT is one option. Inquire about their "DiveQuest" program. Your nephew would probably be thriled to see you become a part of the attraction. Cost is a bit expensive, about 98GBP (USD)$140, and the dive is only 30 minutes.

You can always rent a car and motor up to the springs or to the coast. Or, there are many dive shops in the Orlando area to assist you with planning local dive options.

Neil,

There are a number of springs within a couple of hours drive of Orlando that offer some decent diving, not to mention a few hours down to WPB and Boynton.

I am sure the Florida contingent can give you some fascinating sites as options when they chide in.

Dive Quest at Epcot

The primary value is in giving the people on the other side of the windows a thrill. If you have kids in the Restaurants at Epcot, you can (very positively) freak them out!

If you're "stuck" at Disneyworld on a business trip (yes, that's how I've been winding up there recently), a scuba dip in the fish tank's OK -- but pricy. If you don't have the time to leave Disney during your stay and want a break, dive in.

They allow you to bring your own mask. Everything else is theirs.

Also, bring a bathing suit and your c-card.

Reservations are a must.

Enjoy,

[I've done it twice; might even do it a third time...]

Hi all and thanks for the info but I found out this weekend that Maria and Russell are expecting there second child. I'm sure they would not have told me so early but Oliver kept shouting out "Mummy's having a baby", he must have picked up on their excitement, quite bright for a 30 month old lad. Anyway that puts Orlando off for at least 2 years. Oh well never mind back to the standard dive, dive and more diving type holidays, hehe.
