Combination first stage and valve...

Hi all,

In a thread some time ago someone provided a link to a combination tank valve/first stage that was purported to be nice for stage/pony/deco bottles as it made for a very compact unit. It is basically a first stage that threads directly on the bottle in place of the valve. Anyone know what I’m talking about? I can’t find the link using the search functions.

And another question for anyone with the experience: The device did not have an on/off valve, per se, and was designed to be transfilled via whip. Would this present problems come time to get a bottle inspected? Is it possible to get bottles hydro’ed/inspected w/o a valve installed? If not, would the typical hydro station balk at a bottle with such an unusual device installed in place of the normal valve?

Maybe you were thinking of the H2Odyssey Extra Air System? That sounds like what you're describing. I can't comment about how "safe" it is w.r.t. a conventional pony. As for VIP/Hydro: I can't imagine the H2Odyssey unit causing a problem. It looks like you can just purge the air out of the built-in 2nd stage and unscrew it.

Scroll down and look at the 'options' pull-down menu. It can be had as just the first stage without the bottle. I have one that i purchased as an argon inflation reg, I've never used it.

Hydro - without the valve/combo thingie
Vip - With

If you're doing both at the same time, send it with.
