CoCo View vs Turquoise Bay

can anyone give me a comparison?


as a couple, TB saves about 1000$ over CoCo, but CoCo has me intrigued because of the wreck right off their dock and all of the great reviews for it here.

We *don't* care about pampering, we are used to carrying all our own gear to and from the boat for dives, and we also don't care about night life..

we *do* care about beautiful dives, room to take a walk somewhere scenic, good quality food, and friendly divemasters.

CCV is on it's own private 10 acre cay. Not much walking around. It is a dive resort, first and foremost- but you won't have to carry your own gear- the dive crew loads it for you unless you note otherwise.

There is no night life at CCV- other than the fabulous shore-based night dives. As far as Roatan goes, they have a lock on that title.

They have at CCV what I regard as the best DM's at any of the few AI's on Roatan's South side- a florid and delicate marine environment like no other.

The man I believe is the best DM on Roatan works now for the dive op at Turquoise Bay. Likely he will get his fellows trained up to speed- but the diving on the North side is simpler to guide in terms of pointing things out. It is deeper, darker, the critters are larger and more ocean swimming types. TB does take occasional boats to the South side to dive, most certainly when the North and West gets weathered out, typically on occasional days October thru February.

Not a whole lot of post-vacation reports on TB are lodged here, make of that what you will. Other internet sources that you may peruse are likely habituated by vacationers who also dive, specifically referring to Trip Advisor. I would like to see some TB trip reports here, but they have just recently pumped up the dive operation.

Plus, for that $500 less per person, you get a phone and a TV in the room at Turquoise Bay. You can get maybe 14 dives in during the week.

A lot of people will pay CCV the $500 extra to not have those in the room~ but instead, a room on stilts, out over the reef, plus the 28+ dives in a week.

CoCoView is a dive resort, Turquoise Bay is a resort that also offers diving. No one answer for everybody.

CCV is a DIVE RESORT.... everyone there is a diver, everything is geared around diving. No kids, no families, no beach... dive dive dive dive, then sit in clubhouse and drink a few beers or monkey lala before bed.
TB is a RESORT with diving... not everyone is a diver, it is a resort first with a leisure vacation attitude, not a dive dive dive attitude. Families are there, beach, kids... whole different atmosphere.

so it all depends on who you are and where you fit into the picture.

I have been to both CocoView and Reef House Resort. CocoView was very nice and I enjoyed my stay there but if you want superior food and superior diving I'd recommend RHR. The food at RHR is hands down better and the diving conditions were more pristine because they are pretty much the only resort that dives that area. Mike, the owner, will do everything possible to make sure you are well taken care of and Davit is one of the best DM's i've been in the water with.

It's also a few hundred cheaper than CocoView.

All the DMs at CCV are great, but must also 2nd RM's Wizard of Oz. The diving on the PA wreck alone is worth the extra $. You can also do a nice morning walk along the shoreline - maybe 1/4 mile and see lots of shorebirds.

Hi Emmon! I manage the dive shop at Turquoise Bay Resort for Subway Watersports. We offer 3 boat dives per day and 1 night dive per week. You start diving the day after you arrive and depending on your flight schedule you can dive 2 dives the day before you leave so it is possible to dive 18 times. The others are correct that we do not have shore diving.

Osman is an incredible Divemaster and we love having him as part of our wonderful dive team.

Our guests are a mix of divers who are there to dive every day and vacationers who dive a few times during the week.

RoatanMan is correct about the Northerlies that can affect diving on some days between October - March but we are able to dive the Southside and not interrupt your dive schedule.

What would be the cost for the above dives during a 7 night stay? Reason I ask is that Sunwing (the only direct flight from Toronto to Roatan) has packages to certain resorts with TB being one of them. Much cheaper than buying flight & hotel seperately. Just curious how much the total package would be once the diving is added.

Hi Betty! I've been wanting to say hi since I first saw your "name". I lived in Toronto for 12 years in High Park and love meeting other Canadian divers online and through the Sunwing charter.

Our a la carte dive rates are $28/dive once you reach 15 or more dives. An 18 dive package would cost $504. You do not have to decide in advance how many dives you want to do and you do not need to pay for them until the end of your week.
