It would really be helpful to be able to set the suface interval up to 10 or 15 minutes before the computer registers a new dive.
A few times during our rescue diver cert this weekend we needed to surface for a couple minutes, descend, surface, descend, (ie., bringing non responsive diver to the surface), and the built in two minute time would reset the dive number. If this was user adjustable, I could have kept one dive registered for the time we were in the water. So if a firmware update was ever to be released, this would be a nice edition.

Thanks

Unfortunately the algorithm requires that anything over a two minute interval be treated as a new dive, at least as far as decompression calculations go. But I understand the issue, and we are looking at ways to combine dives with very short surface intervals in the log so they register as one dive, even if the deco calculations treat them as repetitive dives. It's definitely on our list of changes to make with firmware updates. That way the algorithm wants us to track repetitive and multi-day diving makes this a complicated task, though.

I agree this would be a very helpful addition. I could do without the compass if that helped. I have been trying to help my mom after her certification and she has trouble with clearing her ears among other things. When I go to show my divebook to an instructor such as that for the SDI Solo diver course, it looks pretty crummy and the instructors always seem to give me a little trouble about that. Merging the dives would be a great idea.

I think from a practical standpoint it's going to come down to merging dives with short surface intervals in the log. The two minute SI is something we just need to deal with as being repetitive diving.
