No one is suggesting verterans not use the acronyms . . we are suggesting that in the newbie areas that you spell them out every once in a while. For some it seems to be a major inconvenience for them at times, which is understandable. But one way to help newbies learn the lingo is to explain it.

Are split fins good or the root of all Evil? (root of all Evil - Jet Fins are still the peak of fin evolution)

You will note I have conveniently provided the correct answers. :D

Great list, DA, but to my complete shock and dismay I recently found out that Jet Fins are the devil's instrument in the world of swift current river diving - the St. Clair River ;)

I'm crushed because I have been happily diving with knock-off Jets (OMS Slipstreams) for years and thought I was part of the elect. Er, that's Ocean Management Systems for the OP's edification :D

River Diving Equipment

"Fins should NOT have any holes or vents. Many divers, in the river or inside wrecks, have had their fins impaled by objects coming up off the bottom through their fins. (In swift. low visibility water, the risk of entrapment or being impaled is quite high, far beyond almost any other environment in which divers play.) The XL "jet fins" because of the large size of the openings are particularly prone to this problem. I have seen divers impaled from objects (steel rods, pieces of wood or wreckage, etc.) on both wreck and river dives. Vented fins place the diver at risk. In strong current, the impalement typically results in the loss of a fin."

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you, that Jet Fins have a limitation!

SFA == Solution For Acronyms: Upon entry of any three letter sequence representing some cryptic scuba (self contained breathing apparatus) diving term the system should respond with :lam:

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound dismissive. I should have clarified....

I'm a Newbie myself, Certified 10 months ago. I struggled with acronyms myself but was always able to google them "OOA Scuba" in google found the answer for me.

Now to be honest, I'm somewhat of an "immersion" guy when it comes to hobbies I enjoy so I've done a lot in my 10 months, 58 logged dives, Rescue Diver Certified, working on Specialty # 5, have a Drysuit on the way, etc....

I understand some don't take it at my pace but self study allows us to each go at our own comfortable flow. For me the search for the acronyms was just part of the learning curve.

No worries. I get put off by the 'I can't be bothered' type posts I see so often. Drives me nuts that they can't be bothered to take 3 seconds and think what the newbies perspective might be but don't hesitate to post in newbie forums and usually with dribble.

Sorry for being pissy. I'll grab some caffeine and chocolate and try to play nice now!
:D

" Well, if you want to make it easy on you try to go DIR or 3/4 BTC system but of course ADIC indicates that you must follow a SD or TK rule. In any case did you considered to talk to your DM at your LDS for a MTP or BTD setup? "

I've been actively diving since 1983 and I have no idea what you are trying to say.

Now that people sit in front of a computer and have a full keyboard in front of them and don't type it out baffels me.

Have you considered that some of us are working on the computer, and slipping our posts in clandestinely?
