I recently purchased an Aquatec marker strobe for purposes of attaching to downlines on wreck dives. I am not thrilled with the attachments that came with it --a lanyard and a velcro strap. What do folks use to securely attach a small strobe to downlines?

Thanks in advance.

I am not sure why you think that you need a strobe on your down line but the easiest way to attach it would be with a short length of line. Just tie it to the down line with a rolling hitch. Be careful, however, not to let the strobe light become visible on the surface of the water. A rapidly flashing light is an international distress signal. It is the same thing as shouting, "Mayday" on the radio.

captndale: Thanks -- sorry I wasn't clear, but I mean to attach the strobe at depth near the attachment point to the wreck and not anywhere near the surface. This is for purposes of navigating back to the line in low vis/low light conditions.

We use strobes a lot here on the Cape in low light/vis conditions. You can get a large brass swivel snap, then attach the lanyard to the ring on the swivel snap and clip the whole thing onto the anchor chain. Clip it off high enough on the chain so it doesn't bang around on the wreck or the dirt.
