I will be in the Cleveland area this week, is there anyone doing any afternoon/ evening/ night dives?? If so I would love to join ya
Where's the better diving in this area??

Hey man,

Cleveland is basically great for getting wet, but not much to see unless you have GPS on your boat to find wrecks, then its ten feet of visibility. I dived the Algeria once and it was pretty cool, but finding it is a chore. The North Carolina is the next dive I want to do, off of Mentor Lagoons, and it is buoyed by MAST so I might be able to find it.

I checked the weather, and winds are out of the south this thursday, so if you want to try to dive it, let me know and we can go out on my boat thursday afternoon. Water temps are likely well below 50°F at 30 feet.

There really isn't any shore diving that is accessible.

I plan to take my boat out to some areas near Rocky River to see if there is a deeper wall near shore between the mouth of the river and Pier W, but not too excited about it being promising.

My only apprehension about going diving off my boat is that it is very small, and there would be two of us, without anyone on the boat unless I find someone to stay on the boat. Its also electric, and quite slow to traverse out a mile into the lake, and then a mile or so east of the Chagrin river to find the North Carolina.

Look up my website to see pics of the boat on the "about us" page to get an idea - Architectural Glass Design | Changing Color Glass | Dichroic Glass

I have dived off the boat before, and its a little cramped, but works good, with a strong swim platform off the back. I usually don/doff my BC in the water to make everything easier.

Let me know if you are interested so far.

I just checked the MAST website, and it looks like the North Carolina is not yet buoyed for this years dive season, but I'm going to call a MAST member tomorrow to see if it is truly not buoyed - their website might not be updated.

I also forgot to say that there is rather interesting diving off of any of the breakwall areas, notably the "jacks" that are in the breakwall in front of Burke Lakefront Airport. They go down to about 30 ft and is a fun way to test your lights, see where the thermocline is, and generally descend with something as a reference point visually. I've seen about 30 foot of visibility there.

I'm also available tonight (Wednesday) if you get these messages.

If I were you, I would go with Blazinator just to get a look at that boat!

I think the buoys are out there.

If any of you ever want to dive from it and see it, by all means, let me know!

I totally underestimated how much of a blessing that boat ended up being. Not only is it the most popular cruiser next to yachts, I can dive off it rather nicely!

The glass bottom windows in it make it even more fun with divers. Just got back tonight from a wonderful cruise to Lakewood from Cleveland port. A couple beers, some dinner and a great sunset - all on the water.

I threw my Atom 2 in off my anchor line to check water temps at 30 feet, and its 67 at the bottom, and over 70 at 15 ft. Very well divable in wetsuits!

Here's a pic of the boat with the glass (MR-10 hardcoated Lexan) bottom windows, shot not in the caribbean like the water appears to be, but in Torch Lake in northern Michigan:

WOW, thanks for the invite and nice boat. I was way too busy this week to hook up with ya and dive. Maybe later in the summer, thanks again!!
