Is there any diving in Clear Lake? I'm going to be staying there for a week after Thanksgiving (Kelseyville).

Or would I be better off going over to the coast?

I drive past clearlake on my way to my actual dive site if that says anything. I can't imagine clear lake having any good diving, for the lake is hardly clear at all. When I have fished the lake I have noticed that visibility has never been about 5-10 feet, and thats best case scenario. Take the 1 hour detour to Fort Bragg

Don't know about the diving.

But Clear Lake has awesome big mouth bass fishing.

great eats.

I was under the impression that the bass out of that lake couldn't be eaten because of the high levels of mercury in the lake.

Anyways, I couldn't imagine diving in the muck. Maybe back in the day when it actually was a "clear" lake, but certainly not now.

Head for the coast. Very good diving, weather permitting, is just a short drive.

My family used to frequent Clear Lake when I was a wee child, back in the late 60's. It was not clear then. I don't know when (or if) it was ever clear. I haven't been there in probably 30 years, but I seriously doubt that you would find much decent diving there. It's your life, but I would wait for better places.

It sounds like Clear Lake is more of a marketing term than a reflection of reality (like "semi-dry wetsuit").

Thanks, guys! I'll head for Ft Bragg (and start a separate thread).

Nice!

Actually I did make an attempt to dive in Clear Lake. The lake is very murky, a silty fine mub bottom, alge and most impotantly not "Clear". Go to the coast and don't bother....
