I'm not so much into the classic muscle car thing, though I would be, if I had the money for it and lived in a better area for 400+hp of RWD power. I do however enjoy sport compacts...not the whole "scene," just the cars. I own an 02 Impreza WRX SportWagon...227 hp, 0-60 in 5.6 secs. I'd upgrade to the STi (300 hp, 0-60 4.5 secs) if they made it in a wagon. I can't give up the Scubaru!

Don't worry...I'm not one of those guys driving around with a fart-can on the back and a huge carbon fiber wing.

hmmm, just wondering, does my 1958 chevy apache pickup qualify??? ;)

Fart-can........I'll have to remember that. Wings.........Wings are cool..........if you want to fly. Stay grounded. Very cool car though. A buddy has the STi and is Solo IIing it. He's bumped the HP to about 375. Don't ask me how.....he's the gearhead.

A chip will get you another 30-40 HP.

Maybe someday I'll boost mine to 280 or so....used chips are pretty cheap these days.

grapefruit launchers

and we call the more ridiculous wings

Me: I've had a '72 Mach I Mustang, '86 convertible Mustang and a '69 Mercury Cougar but as to the COOLEST cars so far mentioned that would be:

the '67 Shelby GT 500

I'm assuming it has the original paint with the racing stripe. Everything about that car is awsome. Its perfect.

the least cool:

the trans am.

sorry to say that, but its that whole burt reynolds/smokey and the bandit connection

Dennis W.: you are so right. when my dad was into restoring cars I saw him completely fix the body of a car by taking off all the panels, resand, prepare to paint then stop and do it all over again be cause it wasnt quite right. He would literally spend days working on a car until my mom would make him go to work(he was a contractor) And when it comes to selling them - he would be so depressed - until he bought another project car

Now this is a non-diving thread I can enjoy.

Ok here's my list of cars in order.

79 TA 403 ci - Traded in when I settled down.
78 Firebird 350 - 4 bolt main- my Ex-Wife to be sold it while I was out of country. Notice I said Ex-wife
69 Fastback Mustang 302 ci - Sold for Conv at current wifes wanted wind in the hair.
73 Conv Mustang - Sold for Vet when the wife didn't care for the wind in her hair anymore
78 Vet - Bent around a pole after dodgeing a Mini-van who pulled out in ft of me.

My next one is going to be a 78-80 308 GT like Magnum PI

I know of a red '64 Vet, 327 4 sp w/factory air thats been parked since '74. It's all complete in one peice w/knockoff's. Shes hasn't been able to find the keys for me to open the hood or get a good look inside. It's possible that it may be a fuelie. She said her husband bought the car with all the top of the line options. When they got devorced in the late 60's she got the car. I've offered to take it off her hands a couple of times but she's not ready to sell so it just sits there. She parked it in '74 cause the reverse lockout broke and didn't have the money to get it fixed at the time. It's one owner approx 70 to 80,000 miles all org unmolested and except for the reverse lockout was running at the time it was parked.

Not quite in the age category as the first post but had to jump in when i saw cars. I am in the middle of rebuilding my 80 Corvette. Drove it for 5 years, parked it for 2, and have been pulling a few weekends on it when I am not getting wet. I have about finished the engine 10-1 compression. Trick flow twisted wedge aluminum heads. Trick flow stage 2 camshaft. Roller rockers, Edelbrock RPM air gap manifold and Edelbrock carb. Just about to yank the TH 350 out and put a TH700r4 in it. Cannot wait to get it back on the road. Been too long not to drive a Corvette!

2000 Mustang GT / Couple Mods
13.7@102, on a 150 shot - 11.8@114

1989 Mustang GT / Tons of crap. 392, carb, dual stage n20 setup
N/A - 11.9@115 BIG SHOT 10.5@131

I used to be totally into 60's Mustangs. I have owned about a dozen in my lifetime. I had a 67 Fastback for 9 years, and it was (is) my favorite hot rod. We went through a lot together, including many rearends and gear ratios and a few motors. The best was the dual-quad 289 with 4.56's with a wide-ratio top-loader. --*deep sigh*-- gawd how I miss that car sometimes.

I have had a couple of convertibles and a bench seat coupe and I even owned a 67 Shelby GT 500 for a while. Oh, to be able to go back and do things over differently.

All of my buddies were into hot rods also, with AMXs and Camaros and all sorts of toys.

I still have a muscle car, but it is a 2001 WS6 TransAm with the 325 HP Ram Air option. These days all the aftermarket goodies are merely wishlist items, as my money gets spent on other hobbies (see profile)

You sound like me. The only stangs I like are the first gens and the GT 500's are, IMO, the ultimate. I bet you're kicking yourself for letting that one get away! It sounds like you've got a nice TA. I've got a 2000 Camaro SS (onyx/ebony, Hurst M6) with approximately 375 FW HP so far with minor mods- including a lid and GMMG chambered exhaust. It's nice & loud (& pretty damn fast :) )! I love it.
