well i got my books for the class i start class the first part of June i had a choice of books and come in on my own time and watch some videos or get the cdrom version of the books with the videos on the cds i went with the cdroms i fig it would be good to have the videos to re watch from time to time to keep it fresh

the class lay out is 3 class room days 2 pool days a beach dive and a boat dive the beach and boat dives are all day dives so i sure you do more then one a day

just wondering if you was taking the classes now for the first time would wanted the books or the cd roms?

another reason i went with the cdrom was they said up to 5 people can work off the cdrom set and only 1 with the books and my wife will be taking her classes in sept/oct"she deployed right now AF"

Get the books. Photocopy the knowledge reviews and Q&A sections before you use them and then they can be used by your wife.

Books are quick reference, portable, and do not require electricity. You can make notes in them for details you find important. Books, books, books.

I strongly agree. If you have the choice of just one or the other, then book.

I'm confused about something... are you saying you have the option of not using a book at all? That's a surprise; I'd be real leery of that.

The video/DVDs cover the same material, maybe word-for-word. And it's nice and more interesting to watch the clips.

But a book is priceless to study, and to do the practice quizzes. And later as a quick off-the-shelf review resource.

The DVDs are nice as a review too; just not as a quick review. We got the book for my son a year ago when he was doing OWD, but then ordered the DVDs in addition.

i got the cdroms before i asked i got them because of the videos ill have for review

and it has questions alot of them i am on section 1 witch is 200 pages and every 4-7 pages is a quick quiz ..review then at teh end of the section you have a test you have to take before you go to the next section

the first 30 pages went over buoyancy pressure squeeze and how often to eqaul the airspce in a decent and how to equalization.

they told me it was the book just on cd and interactive. only thing i lose is the highlighting the stuff that stands out.

the pack is called padi learn to dive today open water diver version 2.4

i havent been to class yet so i dont know what they do in it i now i need this for the class so i went ahead and picked it up to learn what i can now

So... you do have the book? :D

Or, sorry... after re-reading your post, it looks like you don't have the Go Dive book, just a CD-ROM... right?

We've got the book, and two DVDs -- not CD-ROM. The DVDs go over the course material, and that's what they'll be showing you during your classroom work. But it doesn't have quizzes and practice tests (at least that I've found).

I haven't seen the CD-ROM.... you're saying the CD-ROM has all the quizzes and practice tests? Good!

Still, I personally like having a physical book to read and reference... if only because I don't need a computer!

i guess you could say that but its in a fourm of cdroms and this way like i said i get the videos also so in a way i can allways retake the class as in book work over to refresh myself i think i should do that every year

wear if i got the books in hard back i would seen the videos in the class room and that would been it

Hey, no fair! I'm responding, and you're editing your post in the meantime!

No, wait... that's what I'm doing too... :06:

OK, see how your first class goes. You'll find that they'll go over all the material again; assuming you've already studied it on your own. They'll also probably show the DVD that I was talking about, as yet another review.

Have fun!
