I am going to Samui and Koh phangan in August, can anyone tell me if thats a good time to dive Chumphon Pinnacle ? (last October the weather was bad and no one was going).
Any recommendations for Dive Shops to use ?, Samui or Koh phangan - not Koh Tao.

Thanks

Khun Neal,

August is about as good as it gets in the Gulf for these three islands. Please feel free to contact me by pm if you require more info in dc's on Samui and KP.

Have a look at my Samui info and weather blog as listed below in my signature, it will tell you the weather conditions for the last four years in the archives, about halfway down the page, left hand side.

I visited last August, and the conditions were perfect at Chumphon !! Water was around 28-29 degrees, and visibility was easily 30m+. I'm envious that you'll be there at that time of the year ...

I recall DMs and instructors telling me that the conditions (vis. esp.) weren't as good in July last season ... but that could have been just bad luck ...

One thing that I wasn't as pleased about last August, KhunNeal ... few bulls at the Pinnacles (and the ones that were there were very shy ...). We actually had to go off searching for some!

Maybe water temp. in the summer is too warm for them??

Enjoy yourself

We dived around Koh Tao in July a few years back and Chumpon was hands down the best dive site we did. The rest of the dive sites around Koh Tao were pretty average, but Chumps was great! Hope the weather is OK for you in August.
