I wrote this a few years ago for a devotional booklet our church was putting together.

You have to realize that the star is telling the story - for some reason some people don't get that!

Bethlehem's Star

I look down from high above as the night's events unfold
Never dreaming the role I'd play or the story to be told.
The night was growing colder as the couple made their way,
To Bethlehem in Judea with the taxes they must pay.

Joseph came with Mary that night - who was pledged as wife to him,
They arrived in town and quickly learned of no rooms at the Inn.
They really had no other choice for they knew they had to stay.
They chose to spend that special night in a stable filled with hay.

Joseph and Mary had settled in as she waited to give birth,
An unlikely pair, an unlikely place for the Savior of the earth.
That night was surely special - considered a Holy Night by most,
It marked the arrival of God's own Son - announced by Heavenly Hosts.

That silent night the Christ-child came and lay in a manger bed,
Wrapped in swaddling clothes - He rested there - me brightly overhead.
I looked across the fields to see shepherds and flocks were near,
An angel of the Lord appeared and it filled them with great fear.

Then the angels said, with great joy,
"I bring to you good news, The birth of Christ the Lord" - Savior of the Gentiles and the Jews.
By God's great touch I shone with a greater brightness that night,
To guide the shepherds across the land to see the glorious sight.

They found Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus - just as the angel said,
And others too had taken notice of my radiance overhead.
Three wisemen came - at the king's request - with gifts of worth untold,
They offered their gifts, brought from afar - myrrh and incense and gold.

As the angels rejoiced and the wisemen adored,
The shepherds looked on the Hope of the World,
The true gift that was given on that first Christmas Day,
Would one day be reveald on a cross far away.

As I looked on the Savior and His spear pierced side,
I remember the night and the worshipers beside,
A manger so quiet on that night long ago,
When God's perfect Son arrived on the earth far below.

Through His life and His death by God's loving hand,
Jesus arose to give you life in a glorious eternal land.
I see those who know Him and those who are lost,
Accept Christ as your Savior - He paid your cost.

Well done!

Very touching. I'm sure you must have read it out loud in your church. It's very well written.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

:)

Thank you for sharing to remind us of the true reason for the season.
