So work is likely going to bring me to Chowchilla in a few weeks. Should I bring my gear? What is in reasonable striking distance for diving? Sites? Shops? Boats? TIA.

Chowchilla? ouch...
the closest ocean is at least 2 and a half hours away. Luckily, that will place you right in the Monterey Bay which has arguably the best diving the West has to offer. Not much in Chowchilla is geared towards diving since there is no water. Lots of great shops in Monterey though...If you are willing to make the 2.5+ hour drive from chowchilla to Monterey a few times then I would take your gear. Send me PM when you plan on heading this way and I can provide a bit more info~

So it is settled. I have booked a 3 tank with Silver Prince for the 21st. Looking forward to it!
