OneBrightGator:I just measured my STA and it's less than half an inch thick, so the idea that using a single tank with a traditional BP creates some large moment is false, in fact most BCs hold the tank further from the body than a BP/STA setup.
I agree that the distance between the diver and the tank on a traditional backplate is probably a non-issue. Most of the hardpack jacket BC's hold the tank further away from the diver (including mine) (not sure about the softpack BC's - never looked).
OneBrightGator:Also, my tank is securely strapped to a curved STA, which is then bolted to the BP, I don't know if a flat plate would hold a tank as securely.
It should be near impossible for the tank to move around with two cam bands holding it. Even on my jacket BC, which has quite a flat backplate where the tank mounts, tank movement is not an issue. My wife's jacket BC has a single strap with no (appreciable) movement apparent. It comes down to how you use the cam. STA or not, if it is not secured correctly, it will move.
OneBrightGator:I like my setup because I'm not restricted to single tank use.
Wasn't that what rcrs007 was asking about - a single tank setup?
OneBrightGator:As for the wing, I've never dove with a JetHarness wing, but as far as I know they have no history in wings ...
Neither did Oxycheq until quite recently...
OneBrightGator:... not to mention that ridiculously long inflator hose.
I have had the good fortune of dealing with Jeff from Jet Harness and he is an extremely (!) helpful person. He goes out of his way to meet all the customer's needs and accommodates any (safe) customisation requests that you might have. If you have an issue with the inflator hose length, just ask. The same applies to all his equipment.
The posts that I have read from Jet Harness users have been very positive. Thank goodness for innovation and people who are prepared to break the mould.
To reiterate LioKai's point: There really are other products besides OMS and Dive Rite and such.
Cheers,
