Man, searching for stuff on scuba board helps alot, I found alot of info but not exactly what I was looking for, maybe you'll be able to help me out.

After looking around at all the possible single tank wing/backplate combinations I'm thinking of going with the Halcyon Pioneer MC System. Do whats the deal, is it really the best single tank wing/back plate system out there. Is it worth the 550$ and up pricetag ?
Where do the DiveRite, OMS, and Oxycheq single tank wing/backplate systems fall short or better the Halcyon ?

Hehe, "MC System" gotta love the cheezy names.

Thanks for the help,

Ryan

are pretty similar for the most part...some are steel, some aluminum. Some mfgs provide 'heavy' or short' plates for specific needs.

I like the Halcyon and Oxy wings...have one of each.

Shop around, mix and match, there's bargains around. Check ebay, GUE, and Cave Diver sites...

Aluminum plate, basic harness, crotch strap, Venture Wing (30 lbs. lift) and Zeagle tank-mount weight pouches. Cost about $375 from my LDS. Halcyon may be "better" in the eyes of some people, but is it worth that much more?

The simple answer: Yes, it is the best. Make sure you get the Eclipse wing as it has an outer shell making it more durable.

The actual metal backplates are pretty much the same...not a whole lot of difference. The wings are drastically different though. Halcyon makes the best one overall and you can dive it right out of the box without having to modify it. It is worth the cost.

Highly subjective :)

Yeah...You knew I'd say that anyway!

For a single tanks setup I dive a 15l steel tank, 3mm wetsuit with a Halcyon SS BP and Pioneer 27# wing.
In fresh water I am overweighted by about 6# - which I can easily swim up.
In salt water I am very slightly overweighted but it is a very comfortable setup.

As far as quality goes, I am impressed with the Halcyon quality but cannot comment on the others.

I ended up finding a used Halcyon bp/harness/wing (27lb) on Deco Stop and bought it. Hearing all this news about their lawsuits is making me less and less of a proud owner. The pictures I got show it with the H's harness, can I flip the harness around so I can reduce the billboard look, or are the H's on both sides of harness?

Maybe I'm ignorant but why would you need the Eclipses super hard shell, I mean I'm not about to be going into any dangerous environments with a single tank.

As I understand it, yes you can re-web the harness to eliminate the Hs on the shoulders, but then they'll appear on the wasit. It's your call.

As for the outer shell....well...I can honestly say I'm not the gentlest person around. I'm going to be getting a Sig. Series set-up from COVCI when I get my return and he gets 30# wings in stock.

Who cares about the lawsuit...you have a great BC. (We don't even know the details of the suit anyway.)

Just replace the Halcyon logo webbing with normal black webbing.
