Does anyone know of any place in the bay to do some shore dives? Our club, Olney Scuba Adventure Dive Club, goes down to Solomon's area in the fall to dive town creek. Starting in October, we dive for oysters.

I was wondering if there is any place to do some shore dives. Either for oysters in season or sharks teeth/fossils.

Flag Pond State Park will let you dive from shore. It's in southern Maryland, I don't think too
far from Calvert Cliffs. The only problems with Flag Pond is that the water stays shallow for
quite a ways out. I took gear there once, didn't dive because it's a long haul from where you
park to where you get in. You MUST take a cart of some kind. They have a small fossil museum
there and the park rangers are very knowledgeable. Didn't dive but found a few nice fossils
on the beach and in the surf area.

Dunno about any shore diving in the Chesapeake, but have you seen the stinging nettles in there in the summer? Full wetsuit, gloves, and a hood are a must in my 'umble opinion...

The jellies tend to come in later in the summer especially when there hasn't been much rain,
but this time of year should be OK. Keep in mind that the viz will get worse as it gets warmer.

Shore diving in the chesapeake bay and tributaries is extremely dangerous due to boaters who don't know what a dive flag means... proceed with extreme caution, surface floats, flags flying and only when you don't see any boat traffic... in other words in the off season around mid day in the middle of the week.

With that said, there are many places to do interesting scavenger type dives... including from the shores of Hartmiller Island where thousands of summer boaters religiously lose their jewelry, wallets and money all summer long
