Would you guys care to elaborate? possibly share some experience? Not that I wont follow your advice, Just curious.

Let's say you got you spare 2nd stage on a clip like that,(worst case)you will not be able to get it free in the (short) time needed.
Or when wearing gloves, you won't get them free what ever is on them.
IMO they are fine for clipping camera's and the likes to you BC,for the rest I won't use them.As Phill said we call them suicide clips.
Safest snap in diving is a boldsnap.

The problem is that all you have to do to clip into something is push against the gate. It would be very easy to have a piece of gear attached to you with that or a similar clip and if you accidentally brush against a line, wire, piece of netting... it can clip to it without your knowing it, until you try to swim away that is. If such a clip is in a place that you have trouble reaching you are stuck. That is why everyone uses the clips that require you to manually open them, like on dog leashes.

Gate clips, carabiners, etc. that have one way openings (gates) like this can allow fishing line, kelp, netting, wires etc. or other entanglement hazards to get accidentally clipped to you since all they have to do is press in on the gate to enter the clip. You can also get a larger diameter rope, etc. into the clip that would make it very difficult to position it in just the right way to get the gate open again. That is a safety issue if you dive in areas that have those conditions. They can also unclip fairly easily as again it only take a small amount of pressure to open the gates, versus a standard spring clip. That would be my concern. I think most divers prefer a bolt snap:

as these have less entanglement issues and are much less likely to open accidentally.

Don't use them on anything you might have to undo underwater.

Many divers prefer to have some line or cord attaching the object you are carrying to a clip so that in the event of entanglement, you can cut through the line and release the item thats tangled. It's tough to cut through a SS clip.

Hope that helps.
