A large group of us will be diving the old lumber mill in Lake Huron at Cheboygen MI on Sept 8-9. This is a great beach dive with lot's of buddies available. If anyone is interested in joining us, post or PM me.

Please do! Are you familiar with the location?

Nope, that is why I want to come along.

In June a group of us dived the old mill site in Tawas Bay. Had to be the most fun I have ever had in less than ten feet of water. LOTS of artifacts!!!

I spoke to Karen (our LDS chick) and she is going to pass on your invitation to the email list she maintains if that is OK?

Are you familiar with the site, because there is one concern if it is in or near the mouth of the river. I don't own a haz mat suit.

Great Lakes Tissue Execs Arrested

Just days after Cheboygan's largest employer recalled dozens of people laid off due to a business downturn, company executives were turning themselves in to police. Clarence Roaznowski and Todd Kortman face charges from DEQ regarding alleged pollution caused by Great Lakes Tissue's operations along the Cheboygan River. The allegations that Great Lakes has manipulated test results have been around for a decade, and the company had faced sacntions from the state since 1999. DEQ says they've given Great Lakes multiple chances to clean up and the company hasn't done so. A trial date has not been set, and both men are out on bond.

We are in an area off 23 North of town, off of Todd Street. Clear shallow water with lots of slabs and logs on the bottom and a few old piers that now are mostly submerged. If you zoom in on a setelite photo, you can see the piers under the water near shore.

The Alpena contingent will be meeting at the LDS at 7:15 on the 8th and leaving the parking lot at 7:30 for the trip to Cheboygan. Carpooling is anticipated. We plan on stopping at the Carnation at 9:00 then head to the water for 10:00.

Great News! Look for the "MUD CLUB" logos!

Any idea how many we should buy hot dogs for?

After the bridge walk, My wife and myself took a ride down Todd Rd. to check out the site, looks like a fun dive. We drove almost to the end of the point, then got out and walked around. Didn't notice much beach but a lot of marsh grass, and cat tails. Still looks like fun.

I am not 100% sure it is Todd Dr. but if you meet us at the Carnation for breakfast or stop at Johnson's Motel, we will get you to the right place. Look for the dive flag by the two track or PM me with a phone number to call when I get there and verify the spot is still accessible.
