Try one of Mexico's best-kept secrets: Xcalak. For $69/night, you can rent a nice, fully-equipped 2-bedroom "villa" (actually one section of a 4-plex) right on the beach; just 500 m offshore is the Great Maya Reef. There's a good dive shop in town.
