Hello,

I thought I'd post this here. I want to get new hoses for my regs soon and I'm wondering if any of y'all work on your own hoses. Is it just a matter of getting a wrench and crankin?

-Zak

Yup, but not too tight. Finger tight first, then snug it down a bit with a wrench.

The regulator hoses all have an inline swivel on the end that attaches to the second stage, so there will be a normal sized fitting on the other side of that and a narrower fitting on the regulator itself. That's what needs to come apart for the new hose to go on.

BTW, you should be doing buddy bubble checks every dive anyway, but definitely after this.

Yes. Hand tight plus a little snugging up with a wrench.

That's all there is to it besides making sure there's no dirt or anything on the O-ring before you screw it on.

LP hoses are very easy to DIY. HP just a little trickier as you have to deal with the spool on the SPG end. A little lube is good and just enough torque that you can't loosen it by hand.

But why are you changing hoses? Unless it is failing or the wrong length, save your money for diving.

Hmm, I may just get the LDS to do it, we'll see. Thanks for the response though.

It truly is easier than attaching your BC to your tank. But if you have the LDS do it be sure to watch over their shoulder so you learn.

I'm considering going the long hose route. I haven't decided yet but I'm looking at my options. If I do switch them out, I could save some cash for diving if I could do it my self. The LDS here wanted to charge me $75 for a 6' hose, not including the work, which I'm sure they would charge me at least $10. So if I bought the hoses online I could save some buku bucks.

My gear is currently getting its annual check up and I'm getting a shorter inflator hose put on (it was REALLY long). I'm sure the LDS is going to try and take my old inflator hose even though I paid $20 for a shorter one, but I'm going to see if some lucky person on eBay wants to buy it.

$75 for a hose!!!!

TDL has those for I think $25.

I understand your screen name

Yea I almost friggen choked. I'm pretty sure I'm paying too much for gear servicing too, but they are the only oceanic dealer in town and are close by... so I'll take the hit.

They also tried to talk me into buying a 360 degree swivel for my primary ($37.50 for a piece of metal) instead of going with a long hose... grrr...

This long hose project might have to wait until I get back to the states in the winter when I won't be spending every cent on scuba. Need cash for diving... too many things to buy...

Zak

I see. Yes, put the hose on yourself. You are sure to get grief from them for both your online purchase and the 6' hose. And it's better that you know how to do these simple things.
