Hello, I have been diving with the Aqualung Kronos Supreme since the beginning of my ¨scuba career¨ which consists of 45 dives in cold water (min 38) at a maximum depth of 140 ft. I have not had any major problems with the regulator other than one free flow but i was thinking of changing it for many reasons.

First of all, the hose routing is horrible! Seriously, there seems to be no way to route the hoses without one popping straight up. It has also became a mind trick to try to pack it in a bag for travel. Another reason i want to change is that the side deflector (which is just a fancy plastic hole) doesn't procure me any advantages. I get that it is very useful for u/w photography but i'm not into that. So having this seems to be like having a cool new motorcycle helmet without having the motorcycle.

Also, since i have had this regulator since the beginning, i have no reference on how good it breaths. Maybe it breaths horribly but i got accustomed to it so i don't realize it. But i did realize a great change in the ease of breathing at depth where it got harder to suck the air out. On the other hand, maybe it breaths great. So do you guys think that by changing it i will see a clear difference in the ease of breathing at all depths?

I was thinking of changing it for the Scuba Pro mk17 with the G250V. Would this be a clear difference or would that just be changing a reg for the sake of changing a reg?

Thanks for your thoughts:wink:

New Regs for 2007 | Scuba Diving Magazine

Just looked at the Kronos Sup diagram. Assuming it's working properly and properly adjusted you are not going to be able to tell any differnece in the 2 regs, a machine may can but not a diver. At rec depths it should breath the same reguardless of depth, which makes me wonder if it needs some help. Both first stages are balanced diaphram designs and both seconds are balanced designs of basically the same mechanical design. The SP hose routing may suit you better but the difference in preformance of the second stages will be very close, again assuming both are working properly and properly set up.

That reg looks like a dolled-up Micra Adjustable to me.

Hey Nordique,

the Kronos is good little regulator, and great for our diving conditions, assuming that it is tuned properly this should breath as good as the MK17. this would be changing a reg for changing a reg IMO.

I would however recommend upgrading the hoses to Miflex, these are much more flexible than the traditional rubber hose, making packing the regulator away child's play, and hose routing is less of an issue. replacing all 4 hoses should cost about $200 but will make your life so much easier.

Before you decide you "need" new gear, see if you can borrow a buddies regs for a dive, this is a good way to try other gear to see if you like it. Worse come to worse you can always rent them from a shop.

Cheers
