OK, so I really don't like the cam straps that came with my BP/Wing for single-tank diving
It's a Halcyon rig

and the cam buckles come apart... the wire part, I'll call it a bail, disconnects from the cam buckle, and every time it's just something else to putz with when I'm trying to hang it onto another tank. Can't find a great picure online but this one shows it. Basically, the wire connects into a slot as opposed to a hole, so it's captured when under tension but not permanently.

What am I missing? Should I embrace this "feature"?
or is there a clever way to rig it so that it doesn't come unclipped everytime?
The only advantage that I can figure is that it helps the rig to lay flatter in storage.... so not much of an advantage in my eyes...

My previous recreational BC's all had a connected type of buckle sort of like this. Pretty solid and I never had a problem...althoughi do recognize that plastic isn't as solid as steel!

If I do buy replacement straps...... Are these new quick fit camp buckles really that much better...worth the price?

I really don't want to spend money on the upgrade, but it does kinda drive me nuts.

I'm also thinking about adding a single adapter to help align the tank. Seems like 90% of the time my first try of getting the tank on and tight ends up with a slightly leaning tank. But again, I don't really want to spend much money on it.

The last ones you pictured work the same way you describe the Halcyon working -- the two ends separate. (Not familiar with the exact ones you pictured, but the general concept I've usually heard called "Scubapro style" or Scubapro SuperCinch.) I prefer that, but it sounds like you want the more traditional style.

There's a discussion thread here debating the types.

If you do decide you want traditional style, I have some posted for sale.

Oh, yes: Ignore the lean, or just grab the backplate and give it a quick wrench to straighten it out. Doesn't really affect the diving.

(Or buy the inexpensive and high quality STA I have in the same post. But you don't really need it.)

There are advantages and disadvantages to either.... I use various types, some that come apart, and some with a continuous web. Neither is the "holy grail."

I like the cam straps that come apart so when changing tanks on a boat I don't have to lift the entire rig up to move it from tank to tank.

At first I had been thinking that this would be the advantage, but in practice with mine anyway, I pretty much have to get them sloppy loose before I can get them back together, and that means unthreading the buckle

I use the "super cinch" kind. No unthreading.
