I recently upgraded from OUPV to 50T Masters and was disappointed to see that my renewal date did not change. I thought it would be 5 years from the time the new credientials were issued. Now I have to go through all the hullaballoo to renew next year again. I don't know where I got the idea the change in grade would start the renewal clock fresh. Now I wish I had waited and done it all together.

Look at it this way. If this wind keeps blowing like it is you will have lots of down time to do all the paperwork again....;-)
Mike

If the wind keeps blowing like this I will have to go back to a real job and won't need to renew. :dontknow:

True that....the boats over here have been tied to the dock for the last four days. I'm off to Charlotte so that should calm things down shortly...waterwise though it has been hard to find anything to complain about...I'm actually doing some by myself fun diving this year...

It is no different up in Hatteras. I cancelled the weekend on Thursday night as I was out when it picked up on Thursday and there was no doubt in the forecast. The SW is almost worse than the NE for us as it can make the inlet even harder to cross.

Congrats on the upgrade, nice that you cleared that hoop. There is no incentive on their part to restart the clock for you, you can always ask but I would not expect a yes. When you renew why not ask if they will wave anything then? Might make that process less painful.

When I did my original credential application, the USCG had just been assigned to Homeland Security. It was a total paperwork process CF. I think it took about 12 weeks from the time the application was submitted until I recieved my ticket. Comparatively speaking, this upgrade was a piece of cake. The worst thing I had to go through was att my Doc's office because the CG kicked the Physical form because the doctor missed 2 boxes that needed checking. Getting the form back to the doctor and getting those boxes checked with his signature took 2 weeks. Word to the wise: Check the form to make sure the doctor did it right before you send in your application.

Hey Dave, I still want to come up and dive with you. Let me know (short notice) when you have a spot during the week. If I am not running (good chance if it is tues-thursday) I will shoot up there.

Ken I am glad you started this thread. Been sitting here thinking I just renewed a couple years ago and realized by looking at the certificate that I only have 9 months left on it. Guess I will just renew with the 100 ton but perhaps I'd best get started on the paperwork.
Looks like it is going to lay down for a day or two.

Better get started. You just made me think to go look to see if the TWIC card has an expiration date. It is 5 years as well, so I have to do it around the same time as my Mariners credential. So much for living "off the grid", man I am so in the system. :cool2:

Mike..speaking of fun diving..if I put together a mid week "Captain's fun day" to the 20 fathom ledges do you want to go? I have some new marks I want to check out.

Yeah give me a heads up when you decide to go....that's now Tiger country I hear.
I hadn't thought about the TWIC I guess I oughta check that too...
Heading out tomorrow.
Mike
