It seems only fitting that on Saint Patrick’s Day, we celebrate some more green coming the way of our Chamber.
We start off with a very generous Platinum donation that’s being made in memory of Glen Egstrom, Ph.D., and which comes from regular donors Mike Emmerman, his wife Pat Stockhausen, and their son TJ. Glen was a longtime professor of kinesiology at UCLA, helped create the first L.A. County diving program, established the UCLA scuba program, wrote a lot of the training protocols and standards that are still used in teaching diving today, was very active in many phases of diving research, and was truly one of the pioneers of diving (as well as a nice guy). We appreciate that Mike/Pat/TJ are willing to honor Glen’s contributions to our sport.
On the Gold level, we have a donation from Melissa Foo in memory of Isaac Foo. On top of that, because Melissa works at Google, Google is providing another equal Gold-level match to her generous donation. Melissa’s contribution serves as two reminders: That you can make a donation in memory of someone, and that if your company has a matching grant program, that can double the value of your pledge to our Chamber.
On the Silver level, we have a slew of donations today. The first is from Jonathan “BJ” & Melissa Jaivin, the second is in memory of our beloved Dr. Bill Bushing and come from Scuba by Design, and the third one – which is what officially pushed us over $30K – comes from Angi & Ron Burkard, and will be matched by Angi’s employer, Phillips 66/76.
So it’s been an active St. Paddy’s day so far but there’s still plenty of time in the day to go. Saint Patrick is celebrated for driving the snakes out of Ireland and Saint Karl and his crew of volunteers can be similarly celebrated for driving the nitrogen bubbles out of the body of an injured diver. Their work continues because YOU choose to pitch in with a donation. So how about it??? Who will push us to $35,000?
