I reserved a 7mm suit the last time in the shop. :)
Next weekend will be fun.

Its always better to bring more protection than you will need. I had an advanced student this weekend who wore a 3mm shortie with a 3mm full suit and was fine in 51 degree water. He did 4 dives and all were 25 to 30 minutes. He owns a drysuit and I told him he should bring it. He was fine in his 3mm combo but he's a very warm person.

Personally I whine for my drysuit and 400 gram undies in the Florida springs, its 72 degrees in there.

Guys
Thanks for all the good advice. The dive shop is sending a 5 mil suit along and I am considering a hooded vest. This shop is an SSI shop. I have been playing with the dive watch since Feb doing sims but they offer a class so I'm on for that. I may not get to the UW Photo this trip but we'll see. I ride my motorcycle in weather down in the 50s with just a jacket and jeans, in the 40s with leather on so again, we'll see. They do have rental stuff at Loch Low Minn too if I don't bring enough.

HA! It wasn't PADI. So there! :eyebrow:

I just checked the quarry's site.

Save Gas, Dive the Loch!
Current Conditions
Surface Temp: 74 deg. F
Thermocline Depth: 30 feet
At Trench (72'): 64 deg. F
Visibility: 35 feet

Whoo Hoo!!

So now I am a certified OW diver with Nitrox too!
And about that cold water below the thermocline, it was no big deal. :mooner:

Congratulations! Now, dive as often as you can.;)

Congratulations! I don't see any cold temps listed LOL! 64? We are still waiting for surface temps to hit 55, its 42 at depth around here.
Come up and dive any time!

So you use a dry suit a lot!?!? :)
We've had a lot of hot days and warm nights here. The coldest I found, according to my dive computer was 59 deg at around 45 ft. That is the deepest our DM wanted us to go. This quarry is around 70 ft deep in the trench.

I dove wet for 7 years, now I'm dry here and I whine for my drysuit in the Florida springs :D

60 degrees and warmer is perfect for a 5mm suit. My students do fine in 7mm suits in 45 degree water as long as we have a way to keep them warm on the surface interval.

Sounds like you had a good time!
