I am now and officially certified OW diver !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was going to wait to do my AOW but really would like to learn navigation now. I am SO thrilled. Went to 55 ft today, and in the quarry it was COLD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never would have thought I would have accomplished this !

Wish I had the money and a dive buddy to go somewhere really great to dive now.

Congrats SkyBird,

I clearly remember my first quarry dive four years ago for my AOW and it was more than chilly at 90 feet. I'll say that my AOW navigation dive was a very humbling experience. What was so easy to do on the surface was completely different underwater, especially with a bit of current. Now, I use my compass on nearly all of my dives.

Cheers,
Mike

Congratulations!

You may want to read some of the "when to do AOW" threads before you sign up. This may be the time for you but it's still good reading.

I haven't done AOW yet and navigation came pretty much naturally to me. The biggest thing I found once you know the mechanics of doing it to learn to trust the gadget and your skills. The same has been echoed by peers. To that end a few dives in water shallow eongh to afford you the chance to surface and check your bearings (15-20') may give you enough head start to really wring the finer points from the AOW class . Just my opinion, YMMV. Those AOW dives go real fast and as a freshly certified diver you're probably bordering on sensory overload with all of the fun you're having learing your gear. You may want to let that settle down with some fun dives before adding another layer of skills. Your class/book should cover the basics of navigation well enough for you to do some simple in and out dives.
