Hi there! I'm new to this board, and I'm new to diving. My open water certification is this weekend...my first time outside the pool. Wish me luck! I'm in Ottawa, Canada, and it's still pretty cold in the water, even though it's HOT outside (27 degrees all week...that's in the eighties for the Americans!). Let me start by saying I love everything so far, except for hoods. I've decided that hoods are the devil.

Next week I'm getting married, and then my hubby and I are off on our honeymoon. Where, you ask? I have no idea! He won't tell me, but he assures me there's lots of scuba diving (he's already got us signed up), and he also promises NO HOODS!!!

Looking forward to learning all sorts of stuff from you guys...

Welcome to this wonderful sport and the boards here, you've taken the first step in a long journey of fun and adventure.

I don't think anyone will disagree about the devil hoods, I can't stand them myself. Of course once you've dived in cold water without them and gotten an ice cream headache while descending you'll know that they are a necessary evil.

Congrats on the wedding and even more on the scuba diving honeymoon. Hopefully your husband isn't taking you to the North Pole that has a hot tub in the room for you to swim in, ha ha.

Hey stisso, welcome to SB, great to have you aboard. Good luck on your OW certs and yes the hoods are a pain. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and do have fun on your honeymoon. And yes, we Americans should move towards the metric system of measurements, it was England's joke on us. ;)

I don't like the way hoods fit on my neck, but I do like a "beanie" with just the chin straps holding the top part of a hood on top of the head where it is actualy needed. See if you can find one of those. :frosty:

Be sure to check out our New Divers & Those Considering Diving for :newbie:s as I think you'll find lots of help there. And please do post a report about your surprise honeymoon when you return - oh, about the diving anyway. :icosm08:

Thanks, everyone! We just got back, and my wonderful, new husband chose FIJI as our first vacation as newlyweds! I'm SO glad I passed my OW, lol! The rainbow reef is amazing, and when I get a second, I will for sure write a good little review!
