Kim:
This makes me curious. Just to be clear, I didn't think that this was about altitude diving - it's about diving at sea-level and then returning to altitude.
That aside - what exactly is 'the conventional BS surrounding altitude diving' ? I'm genuinely curious.

When diving at altitude PADI has a conversion table to calculate your depth but in general add 4 meters to your actual dive depth and carry on as normal.

Except you also change your depth of the safety stop as well.

Jeff is correct, if anybody gets bent on that drive back, after packing up, having breakfast etc, they would have been bent even if they stayed there.

Tromp, enjoy the trip.

Wade, we were still supposed to dive Bass in winter, never did. We were there on Sunday, 15 degrees above the 12m thermocline.

There is a new place opening in JHB (PhlyBlue I think).

Cheers

Yeah, sorry bout that. Did Miracle a few weeks ago and it was 17 at the rock (28m), not too bad.

PhlyBlue sounds interesting, I never got round to doing the orientation dives, must go check it out though.

If you heading to Bass/Miracle anytime please give me a shout, if I am not there anyways I would love to hook up for a few dives

Cheers!

Bliksem, hierdie ouens kan op 'n tangent afgaan soos min.

Tromp, just enjoy your dives on 2 mile and drive safely. More risk on the road from trucks, cattle and taxis than getting bent :D

I will be at miracle on Sunday.

Afrikaans.

There are very few South African divers on the board, of which a number live outside South Africa.

Yep, meeting more ex pats now than ever on Phuket.

Seriously though when we dived at Sodwana we always waited over night before driving back to Jo'burg.

Geniet die rooi wyn, biltong en boerewors - I would kill for some!
