I’m happy you spoke up, a year ago it seemed pointless. Perhaps if more people with like minds present their opinions there will be a chance.
Judging from the post of mine that I woke up to find deleted this morning I wouldn't bank on it! :D

Humour seems to be out as well these days......

I went back and re-read this thread (yep, all 250 posts) with the intent of the OP in mind. I've discounted all the rhetoric, name calling and personal attacks and tried to get at the heart of what most posters, named, anonymous or otherwise were trying to say. In my opinion most seem to think that the board as it is isn't bad, that some would like a bit more freedom of language, but a majority from this thread would at least like an area that afforded them a space free of the normal constraints. I must admit that barring a reasonable objection from the board management citing time, space, or cost implications to the rest of the board, an opt-in only segment of the forum with very limited censoring really would in no way impact anyone other than those who opt in. Why not give those who desire it an area to "be themselves"? It may have the benefit of allowing them that outlet so adhering to a more modest set of rules for the general board may not be as much of a burden. It also seems like a fairly easy idea to implement, as well as discontinue should it get to a point the owners/management of SB find that necessary. It seems to me like an idea that is worth a try.

I couldn't figure out how to post anonymously, so everyone pretend that Bag Head wrote this:

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far way, there was a "Troll Bridge" that was like what you are describing. You still couldn't use expletives, but the moderation was much more liberal. As a matter of fact, Jep himself was one of the mods. It was experimental and existed at the whim of Net Doc. Then one day, the dream died and the trolls had to scurry to find cover "on the outside." Some left, some went to the Surface Interval, and some were frozen in carbonite, to be awakened when the Bridge returned.

Based on my 10,000 foot lurking view, and having watched the intentional interruption or attempt to hijack this thread by others from the non-diving areas Surface Interval Chatty Cathy group here's feedback on the whats typed vs. whats percieved. Whats typed most times a distracting post most times with :coffee: or  icons, then it gets a few more followed by posts from supporters using :lotsalove: or :dork2:.

After getting clever and learning how to view all users posts so I could find some threads I posted to but learned I could do it for others as well, I learned that the disrupters were bragging about being disruptive or harassing a partiular user. These posts had lots of :rofl3: icons in them.

What I perceive about those posting there is that rum is constantly consumed and completely in desire for intimate relations with just about any opposite sex person so as long as they are breathing. Excellent, I'm trying to learn more about diving and there are hormonally driven drunkards brashly posting without care that someone may have a serious interest in the subject matter at hand.

I found ignore and those who were the worst of it are on it.

For censorship this board does a very good job at just letting a lot of posts be out there. Sometimes something gets hit that is a little overboard, but in the grand scheme, that sometimes is a very small percentage. All this over being able to type out a few cusswords? Try a thesaurus. Merriam Webster has several great options for the fecal term. Google language tools offers other languages to. Mierda, дерьмо,
Scheiße :blinking:

Again, the SI is an opt in forum, you don't have to read it. I was referring to posting in the scuba related areas that are open to all, and not an opt in.

Again, MY perception of this thread is not the SI, it is about people not handling other peoples views and opinions...hitting a report poster button instead of realizing that the world may not agree with them.

You may not like what goes on in the MOF. I for one have a group of people there that will watch my back, dry my tears and make me laugh. I have learned so much about diving from them since I have been a part of the MOF that I wonder why I haven't found these great people years ago.

As far as MY PERCEPTION of this thread, I see that the board may want to look at how the non-opt in areas are moderated. I think it is a tough job, I am not sure how to do it, but I support the board and its staff. It is not about cuss words. Its about finding the tolerable level that is acceptable to the board owners, while trying to make the participators happy.

Hence my point on not understanding what I mean by the way I worded it.

First to post anonymously, click on reply or quote, then in the top right corner click on the make post anonymously and post away.

Second, tell us more of this story about the place in a galaxy far far away. It sounds interesting.

Your subtlety is lost on me here. It was a bad idea then? All the participants were trolls? It was closed improperly? What are you trying to say?

If I had to go anonymous to hide and keep from getting recognized I'd find another place to post. I've never been censored and see no reason to go anonymous. You don't need to hide from the monitors or the other members on this board.
