How do you find and hire tank sherpas? The idea intrigues me . . .

Don:

Great photos, as always. Was this a trip with Bert? I know he goes with Connie. I've definitely got to go with you guys on one of these trips.

Pretty much any of the native people living/working around the cenotes can be hired to help if one was to simply ask. Its almost like buying an item in the markets, they give you a price and you give a lower price and somewhere in the middle you come to an understanding.

We only tried this when we got to Cenote Aktun Hu as they have ATV's for rent but both were broke down and the walk was pretty long. We decided not to dive there as they wanted $50 per person to carry gear plus the entrance fee, I wasn't willing to pay so we went someplace else. On top of the price I somehow see it wrong to pay someone else to carry my gear, maybe if it was some big expedition or something where everyone was carrying their share but not simply because i am lazy. I suppose if you simply cant carry the tanks it would be a good option.

We met up with other groups who had hired help though, Connie was one of them. I think some of the cave instructors/guides have more permanent "staff" that help out on a daily basis.

I'll ask Bert to give me the dates of the next trip, but please keep me in the loop. I'd love to join you guys.

Beautiful, I'm going there for the first time in July also to Isla Holbox for whale sharks.
Do you have any recommendations for lodging? Busget to mid....

Just had an incredible week diving with Connie LoRe in the Cenotes of the Riviera Maya. We had 6 full days of diving the cenotes. I have to say that after many dives in the Florida caves that I love, this was a whole new experience that I won't soon forget. Some of the sites we went to were way off the beaten path and really made you work for it. I won't post an entire trip report, as I've already done that in my blog. There are more photos on my site (see links for blog and galleries below)

Here are a few of my favorites:
