Just had an incredible week diving with Connie LoRe in the Cenotes of the Riviera Maya. We had 6 full days of diving the cenotes. I have to say that after many dives in the Florida caves that I love, this was a whole new experience that I won't soon forget. Some of the sites we went to were way off the beaten path and really made you work for it. I won't post an entire trip report, as I've already done that in my blog. There are more photos on my site (see links for blog and galleries below)

Here are a few of my favorites:

You certainly have a talent for photography because these are impressive. Thanks. Is the third picture a salt/fresh water (halocline I believe) mixture or is that some neat aperture work?

Thanks! Yeah, the third on is in Temple of Doom and it is indeed a halocline. It was cool when the diver was half in and half out of the salt water. I think the haloclines were one of my favorite parts of the diving there.

Great pictures, Inkdiver. Thank you for sharing.

The haloclines were cool at first but after awhile I started to get a headache cause it's like wearing someone else's prescription glasses. :shakehead:

Your pictures make me wanna go back NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again, THANK YOU!!!

Great blog, and your usual fabulous photos, Don. I can't wait until June -- Actually, I can't wait until I can get Cave 2 done and get to some of the places your describe!

Don, your photos are fabulous.

I only visited the grounds at Temple of Doom, we had finished too late at Carwash and I was leaving the next day.

Please, tell me if you jump from the edge of the hole with your gear or if you have to climb down the ladder to get in? It looks like a long jump. :shocked2:

Also, Is Pet Cemetary known under another name? a Mayan name?

Also, I don't know if anyone ever noticed the road sign at Carwash is spelled Carwahs!!!

Thanks! Temple of Doom was one of my favorite dives due to the haloclines and the bright white walls and formations caused by the reaction with salt water. The entrance is indeed a giant stride. The jump itself is not too bad, it's getting the fins on standing on the uneven rock that was a little sketchy for me. Next time, the fins go on further back from the hole :) Climbing out on the ladder wasn't bad, as we had a tank sherpa who took our tanks in the water and climbed them up the ladder. I know, I know, wimpy. I don't care, I was on vacation :)

As far as Pet Cemetery goes, that is the only name I'm aware of, and we even asked Connie about the name and that was the only one she knew as well.

Thanks Lynne. The dives were definitely Cave 2 dives, but I can see how Cave 1 divers can really get a lot out of Mexico caves, as the depths are so shallow that there is the potential to see lots while staying within Cave 1 limits.
