that area is the best hunting site in Mactan, it have a number of Tricycle wrecks at 70 ft flat area where the long tail sharks pass by early in the morning, but that is more than ten years ago. I think it been eaten, but the excitement of the deep is still there. that also where the empty wall start down to 140 ft n beyong. last Sunday is fullmoon. thats the time you really see action. I once saw 2 baby Mantas, but they swim on the surface. that site only fit for the hardcore, not for recreation and u/w photo diver. SAD news contaminate Cebu dive site.

This incident does not feel right to us. 40m, 30mins, gas embolism - experienced divers. Authorities need time to examine everything.

It is correct that there was full moon and strong currents are normally present at this time.

However, 2 diver deaths on the same dive sugests that there were severe/unusual circumstances, especially when the divers are experienced.

Let us hope that the exact circumstances can be determined and that others can learn from this.

Condolences to the families and friends of our dive brothers from Hong Kong.

spoke to a diver from cebu. dive ops there say the two got separated from their group of six and were found floating later. tanks empty and computer says max depth 40m. they say tingo is normally just a 30 minute dive for those who are new to the site because of the depth and current and its easy to get lost there.

some crystal ballers in one of them threads are already discussing the causes, Chip....tsk tsk (including one post I seem to develop an instant headache every time I finish reading it)

I guess we'll never really know what went wrong....
haha, yeah it was quite the jumping conclusion - It's a good point in general, but too premature to pull that card. But I agree with Marv in that he's trying. :)

Do you know if they were led by a DM or decided to dive independantly?

Various reports seem to suggest that they followed their Chinese Instructor.

It seems like this area needs good local knowedge to dive safely.

aside from the instructor, they had a local DM.

Then the key to understanding this tragedy is with the local DM familiar with the area and the dive site.

Sure that much needs investigating, but we need to learn why this dive went so wrong.

Do you know who is leading the investigation in the PI's?
