Heading to CCV in March. Avianca has the best fare but from what I'm reading, it's a great airline so long as everything goes right, but crummy if it doesn't?

As to baggage, the flight connects through El Salvador and, if I am reading it correctly, only allows one 50# bag in coach (2 bags in business). Seems to be in effect after 2/1/15. Is this your experience? We need three bags for the two of us, what happens if you have a second bag? The website is silent (i.e. not allowed or $$$)

Fly United on Saturday. Lax to Houston,Huston to roatan. United allows a bag with SCUBA GEAR only up to 70 pounds. Put both sets of gear in one bag and clothes in another bag. We are in Cozumel right now. Dive bag was 67 pounds, other bag was 50. You need to go to the ODD BAGGAGE counter to check in. I have the letter verifying this policy if you need it

Have Roatan Charter get your tickets. They buy in bulk so prices are good. Go for direct flights. You do not want to be stuck in a third world country airport. Done it. No fun.

I second the comment about not being stuck in a third world airport. Don't even want the t-shirt.
paying more may very well be worth it!

When we go to CCV we manage to carry everything (full kit) on. Don't worry about clothes, we basically wear the same stuff until it rots off.....ok, maybe not but a couple tees, a couple shorts, you are set.

Thanks, prices continue to bounce all over the place, and Roatan Charters had the same Avianca fare as I was getting. For a little more than a hundred a ticket we're now flying through DFW. Now all I have to do is wait....

I'm with previous posts. I'd not recommend Avianca or TACA although some fly them with no problems. I also fly United out of Houston International. Delta and America also fly to Roatan if memory serves me, although I never fly American and Delta doesn't serve my departure hubs.
