We are supposed to be headed to the Grand Cayman on Wed, September 30, if Tropical Depression 5 (possibly Ernesto) doesn't stop us. We are intently watching all the forecasts hoping it will just dissipate.

The crazy thing is, when we were there the first of June, the first Tropical Depression of the season developed over the top of us, and there was no diving the last couple of days. So we rescheduled to get more diving in this year. Now it looks like we could be stopped again.

Anyone else headed that direction next week?

We are looking for alternatives, if we can't go there, but it is difficult to select another location that is out of the path and has good diving.

I assume you mean August 30?

We're keeping an eye on what is currently Tropical Storm Ernesto. It could be a Hurricane by the time it passes through this area, though forecasters are saying it may dissipate in the face of increasing upper level winds.

Cross you fingers with the rest of us and make the best of the situation. It should be clear of this area by Wednesday.

Bonaire's out of the hurricane belt typically. Or Curacao, same diving but more to do on the surface - easier to get to also.

Opps... Thank you for the correction. Yes, I meant August 30.

It looks like it will definitely clear Grand Cayman by Wednesday, but hopefully there will be no damage caused. I hope it does disipate and never make it.

Sorry to disapoint you, but I think the Cayman Islands are right in the path !!!!

The current projected path of Ernesto has it going over Little Cayman, with Grand Cayman being about 80 miles to the left. This storm is not very impressive, so I doubt anything will happen to GC. The left side of a hurricane is the best place to be. A cat 1 storm rarely if ever has strong winds (over 40 moh+) extending 80 miles to the left side.

Little Cayman and the Brac are another matter.

You should be fine.

Thanks Jdcpa, we have been watching the reports intently. I hope that no one in the path is adversely affected. I wonder how the visibility will be affected in GC, if Ernesto stays on its current path.

Anyone with experience diving immediately after a storm like that passes through?
