I could use a tip on a good hotel in Cayman on Seven Mile Beach. I will be alone so I want some activity, but I dont need the Hyatt. Any thoughts?

Thanks

The only beachfront hotels are the Hyatt, Marriott and the Westin but if price is putting you off try either:

Wyndham Sunshine Suites: across the road from the Westin and so good beach is easily accessible and nightlife is close by.

or

Comfort Suites: on the beach side but not on the beach or near the best area of beach but closer to the most active nightlife and has a good bar on site.

Any good to you?

Thanks. Westin is probably a little too rich for my blood. As between Marriot and Hyatt, what would you recommend? I would like an ambiance that is more about being in the carribean than being in a major hotel.

Otherwise, sounds like you favor Wyndham.

I think the Hyatt has better ambiance and less of a "chain" hotel. The gardens around the pool and the just the feel of the property are really nice. Even if you don't stay at the Westin, you may want to go over there and get a piece of their Key Lime Pie....it is awesome (if you like that sort of thing).

I was on Grand Cayman in March for my IDC, which we did at Treasure Island. I didn't stay in the hotel, but certainly spent enough time in their pool and then hanging around the bar in the late afternoon waiting for the evening traffic to die down so I could get back to my room and start writing lesson plans. I really thought the ambience at Treasure Island was very pleasant indeed and would recommend it highly. I put a few pictures of the experience on my web site at http://www.qsl.net/zf2nt/IDC.htm. You might be able to get some feeling for the hotel from that.

You can always go up to the end of Seven Mile Beach to what used to be the new Holiday Inn and is now a Marriott Suites or something like that. I have stayed at Indies Suites next door for ten years.

We were in Cayman last year, stayed at TICondo's right next to Treasure Island Resort. In my opinion, the hotel looked kind of tired and rundown. The pools, bars and other facilities were nice but I looked in a room and it was just average. I had read some bad trip reports about the resorts age and staff attitude before we went. No beach to speak of if that's important to you.
